Running San Pedro thru a juicer?

I've read alot of posts about preparing San Pedro by boiling it etc. My question is,why wouldn't it be just as effective to run it thru a juicer and then just chug it? Sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search and couldn't find an answer.

I have. The only thing that I've noticed in all the posts is that drinking raw cactus tastes like shit. Is that the only reason for the boiling down? To make it more palatable? Excuse me if I don't want to scroll thru posts all morning to find an answer that someone could possible give me straight forward.

As far as I understand it, the heat extracts it from the flesh of the cactus. Otherwise you would have to eat the raw cactus itself which is doable but extra hard on your digestion and you have to eat a lot of it.

hey mate i did exactly what u said n it works fine but believe me it is very hard to get the whole lot down (took me a few hours... kinda ruined the trip). for starters u end up with quite a lot of liquid (about 3 litres), it tastes like shit, and has a really gross texture. give it a go if u think ur for it but imo definitely boil it down if u can.

if anything ur actually losing potency by boiling it... not a lot but some.

sorry to dig up old threads but this is what I found in my search and I will put in my 2 cents now. I have a centrifugal juicer that I just juiced a couple apples with. the pulp collects down in the sides in a bowl and if you run a cactus through then thats where most of the mesc will end up. sure some will be in the juice but it will be mostly water. you may as well dry the cactus chuks and run through a grinder and extract with your preferred method. or make the tea and boil it down a lot so you dont have to drink a lot of it.

If you have one of those expensive juicers that grind it up, you could probably get most of the alkaloids out into the liquid, but as said before boil it down to a small amount because it really sucks drinking it. The cheap juicers (under $200) just cut it up and let the liquid fall through, so if u try and juice things like bananas or pears hardly any of it gets through, and cactus is much more mucus-like than a pear.
