The story:
Pirating music is illegal and the record industries ARE indeed winning and WILL win. I'm really surprised the illegal music sharing has gone on this long, alone!

You ignorant twat the record industry will never win. There will always be some form of pirating and new sites popping up daily.
I don't know if that is your direct quote, if not ignore the ignorant twat part.

They didn't log IPs or anything. I wasn't a major player either, so they wouldn't come after me unless it was completely random. I sincerely doubt you have anything to worry about.

Ah chuckle. You guys are touchy about this for sure. Regardless, reality is indeed reality. You have no power against the record industry. The only power you have is through your musicians. If they decide to dump the record industry then you're fine. 'Til then you're screwed. We all have opinions, and this one comes from someone who's been sued by the bastards.
The record industry will win on this battle of sharing pirated music.
What they won't win on, until they start implanting locks on files and on CDs of some sort, is the transfer of music offline - that is, through storage devices...
Do you guys know how much power the record industry has? Colleges crumble to them, the LAW is on THEIR side, and they have the power to sue using intimidation tactics.
They have made huge progress in their efforts. They shut down napster, they did it to i2Hub which connected colleges across the nation, they're doin it to oink.....etc etc. THEY ARE WINNING! I've accepted it. Will you?
I think it's childish to get pissed at them for wanting their profits, or for going after this issue of piracy - because it's the law, and it's business. These are things that are followed in hopes to govern economy and keep relative order in this society, like it or not.
What I can ~somewhat~ understand is people getting mad at the record industry suing people - you'd think rather than using scare tactics and suing KIDS (legal adults, still, of course) in college who don't have money, that they'd fix the problem another way.
Either way, feeling like a victim of the record company isn't gonna get anyone anywhere.
If anyone should have anger directed towards them, as far as my knowledge takes me, it's the MUSICIANS who comply and sign up with the record industry. The musicians should just dump the companies and sell their shit independently, if that's legally possible.

Yeah, I just read about BOiNK. It's not run by the same person [owner of OiNK will go to jail, wont he?] It will be run by the guys of Pirate Bay. It's just not the same, but it's good they're making an effort.

Ok so tell me, what am I missing? What *significant* progress has been made against them?
As far as I can tell, the net progress lies on their side, not ours. They are making progress while we are clinging to what little is left. They've been targeting these big systems systematically over the years and one by one they are knocking the most popular ones right down.

I love demonoid, but torrentz? I used to use that but it's pretty shitty. Unless they upgraded or something, I guess.

They haven't made any progress, really. All they do is go after random people who download a few songs and over sue them in the hope that it will deter others. It won't. They can only sue so many people. Illegal music downloading cannot and will not be stopped by a few hundred law suites. What little is left? Hundreds of bit torrent sites, news groups, and even mainstream websites that accept credit cards are selling illegal music(http://www.mp3sparks.com/). And we all know DRM will not catch on. They music industry is losing, severely. You're wrong.
