I don't know about this article. I always thought the attractive ones would not be on the winning end as far as intelligences goes. But hey, just one more piece of proof that HG Wells had a realistic imagination.

Ugh... I read the first two paragraphs or whatever and stopped.
The writer seems unaware that a breed does not equal a species by definition

If civilization makes it out of this century, about a fifty-fifty chance that it will, I believe that we will have extremely advanced transhumanism and eventually there will no longer be humans in the traditional sense or we will create an artificial intelligence greater than ourselves that will continue on without us. We will not reach this point and still be expanding our population by sexual intercourse if we still have the need or urge to expand our population at all. Basically, that way of thinking will be irrelevant.

"Physical features will be driven by indicators of health, youth and fertility that men and women have evolved to look for in potential mates," says the report, which suggests that advances in cosmetic surgery and other body modifying techniques will effectively homogenise our appearance.
Plastic surgery does not change our DNA, so these desirable physical features will not be passed on to offspring.

Yet what? This theory is absurd. As has already been mentioned, it is not possible for humans to split into different species, and attractions based upon carved-up and silicone-filled features will not result in similarly-attractive offspring.
We have had these standards of beauty for quite a long time, and we don't appear to be getting any more attractive. If you think we have, spend a few hours watching shoppers in a department store.
The physical features which models and actors display throughout our media are common amongst less than 1% of the human population. Even if these super-gorgeous people restricted their breeding to other super-gorgeous people, they would still not re-populate the planet with a new breed of humans. If they are not genetically predisposed to their super-gorgeous features, it is even LESS likely that they will produce a tiny percentage of super-gorgeous offspring.
Make sense now?

Maybe its the scifi movie marathon Ive been watching talking, but one day I think it will be possible to modify the genetics of your children. This will inevitably be only affordable by the super rich. Money gets passed from parent to child and BAM! you have a generation of nazi super yuppies and the Brave New World they create.
On a serious note, maybe the features themselves are not the genetics that will be passed from generation to generation; perhaps it a predisposition to caving into social expectations of beauty. That what really scares me about plastic surgery. It tricks breeders into passing on the genes of the superficial and weak.

I don't think that scenario will happen. I believe we will eventually remove all genetic diseases from our genes and about the time we start genetic engineering to make ourselves better there will be a neo-luddite movement and eventually we'll stop trying.

imo, the human race has already visibly been separated by intelligence.
the smart people are bound to continue into prosperity and knowledge, while ignorant people(which the numbers are countless) are going to turn back into monkeys.

I will be shocked if the human species lasts until the year 3000 in the current state without drastic changes to our way of life from global warming, peak oil, etc.
