    #7566981 - 10/27/07 02:56 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

im thinking about getting a black light for my posters...

should i just get a regular black light bulb that you stick in your lamp socket?

or one of those feet long thin  more expensive black lights?

never had one so i dunno... any help is appreciated.. not to difficult to answer id think

the long thin blacklights are the way to go.

don't buy one at spencer's or a headshop, they rip you off.

the blacklights of which you speak are way less expensive at the hardware store.

Get some glow paint from a craft store.  You can paint your walls all crazy and it still looks normal in the daytime but with the black light it will glow.  A nice trippy environment

Don't buy the bulbs that screw into a socket. They aren't truly a "blacklight", just a regular bulb with a cheesy coating that will peel off in time.

Once when I did them in a room years ago I bought commercial fluorescent lighting fixtures and then bought the black light tubes separately. Still paid about as much for the setup as I would've at a novelty shop, but I had good commercial grade lights.

That room was bitchin. I painted the entire room (including the ceiling) flat black. It already had a dark brown carpet, so at night when that room was dark it was almost like sitting in the middle of space. Then I bought neon paints in many colors and a variety of paintbrushes and every time we had a party I would set them out and let party-goers decorate. After a few parties that room became my favorite place to trip alone. I'd lay in the middle of the room with the black lights on and it was as if all this graffiti and artwork was floating around me in space.

Make sure you get a UV black light.
