outdoor growing using house heat
    #7270036 - 08/07/07 12:07 PM (16 years, 7 months ago)

I was wondering if anyone know where I can find the info about the guy who lived up north but still grew warm weather mushrooms by making a lean to against his house so the heat would keep them warm through the winter. I live up in northern michigan and I would like to try this with cyanescens or maybe even more tropical strains if possible. Thanks in advance...

Psilocybe Cyanescens or Panaeolus Cyanescens ?

Psilocybe Cyanescens don't need to be kept in lean 2 or greenhouse.

Panaeolus Cyanescens would need to be kept warm during the winter months.

Ok so, Psilocybe Cyanescens can stand a real hard freeze? The kind we get in Michigan, where it is frozen for a month or more. I was under the impression that freezing really kind of hurt a patch.

You'll want to cover the patch with at least six inches of straw prior to the first snowfall. To pad your bet, grow out fresh spawn each winter, and then put it into fresh hardwood chips every spring after last frost. In the native habitat for p cyanescens, the ground never freezes more than an inch or two from the surface.

Thanks for the reply

So you mean indoors I should let the myc run all winter? I should have no problem with that. But when I lay them in the spring will they fruit in the fall?
