first you need to tell us how big the monotubs are?
you'll need to figure out the volume the substrate will occupy in your monotub. then divide that number by 5.
that's your answer.

Well that depends on how big your tubs are. But I have 68qt tubs which I put 10lbs of manure in each one. I usually use anywhere from 3-5 quarts per 10lbs of manure. The more the better. I mostly use 5 jars. I put four in the substrate then I sprinkle the 5th on top. My tubs are usually fully colonized in 5 days.

Well lets say 2 tubs... So 3.5 qts to 17.5 qts substrate is 20% ratio..
Just having trouble imagining how much depth that'd fill in a tub that is about 2ft wide and 1ft deep..

Ok..actually the tub is 66 quarts. So....maybe 3.5 is too little? Damn. 7 qts seems like a weird number to work with. It's either too much for one tub, or too little with 2 tubs.....what to do..what to do...

I have used 1 qt jar per 10lbs of substrate and it works fine albeit takes longer than some of the others on here

okay...
66 quarts. 16.5 gallons. smaller than my tubs...
I would make 3 monotubs. I would use 2 jars of spawn and 10lbs of manure for each tub. I would take the 7th jar and use it as spawn frosting for the three tubs. 1/3 of the jar as a thin layer on top of the mix for each tub.

Sweet, that works out.
The topmost frosting layer of WBS should still be covered by substrate, though, right?

Measure the bottom of your tub. length, width and depth you want.
for example...
tub is 16" by 10" and you want it 5" deep. Multiply those together and you get 800 cubic inches.
divide that number by 1728 to convert to cubic feet. .46 cubic feet of material is what you need to fill.
go here- http://www.onlineconversion.com/volume.htm convert it to quarts
.46 cubic feet equals about 12 quarts or material needed. at a 1:4 ratio, 2.5 quarts of grain...to 10 qts of substrate.
