    #7564585 - 10/26/07 08:12 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

think i made my agar too thick...i was new to it and now i make it way thinner
theres a cloned mdk almost covering the whole top but no growth
beneath the surface..
when i use a wedge i guess i'll just have to scratch off the layers and use g2g

mycelium doesn't grow below the surface it uses that strictly for moisture reservoir . the deeper the pour the longer the myc. can stay on the agar but usually you use the myc. when it reaches just about the the edges of the plate you can use 1/3 of the plate per quart jar of rye
and I have used the whole plate on qt jars before ..
agar is really the best way to work with myc. and spores IMO

Yeah im beginning to come round to the idea of agar, specially as even contams is not failure with agar, simply transfer clean sample, grow it out transfer repeat until u have left contams behind.

Plus its great for isolating good sectors of myc.
