hey;
the concepts of Buddhism are messing with your head because they are not formulaeic concepts -> the way you are using parts of them is wrong.
for one thing, beings are not supposed to suffer, (i.e. it is not a PURPOSE thing), instead it is an observation of a common condition, an observation which helps to breed compassion.
Reconnection and compassion are utterly terrific directions to direct your mind (you do have choice about the connections you make)
Otherwise, Buddhism is all about meditation or how to reconnect with your sense moment totality (and how to use it to be free of habits and thought loops) so you can increase your presence as a force of compassion.
this is simple. it is not a creation myth it is not a tell the future thing it is not a prayer for goodies and it is not a formula for good luck
it is about reconnecting frequently with what is happenning and making things better from that reconnection

Thanks for this post, it is fine indeed.

My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

I don't really look at it as a 'human purpose'. Rather, each individual creates his/her own purpose.
My purpose is to be happy. More or less, I try to live a hedonistic lifestyle.

I think it depends on how you look at suffering. To me, it's more of a dance, a yin and yang...
I cannot live in a world where I am constantly progressing... I mean yeah I like to but we have out off days. one step back and two steps forward.
This 'suffering' is normal. learn to get along with it, make friends with it and figure out how to rest yourself on its shoulders without getting hurt or falling behind.
Then again, compared to 'back then' we have it pretty easy.

Minimize it whenever possible, unless it's for growth, or needed in some way.
And ENJOY your life. Literally, heat beat by heart beat. I almost drowned before, and I have a heart condition, so it's easier for me then some people. But we are not different my friend, I just KNOW what I MIGHT die from.
You will die. Prepare for it.
I'm(UH... well ....as in I TRY) a Buddhist in life, and how I try to treat others, and maintain a humble attitude, and in death I'm a pragmatic atheist.

so that bit about pragmatic atheism is reserved for something you are not, funny how habits of speech, tend to mean things that don't apply to anything.

the great thing about suffering is if you take it to a real deep level, nothing matters anymore and then there is nothing to suffer, and then desire crumbles. no desire for union with god, no desire for anything that is not as it is. when life and death no longer matter then you feel free. and as far as i know only intence suffering can bring about this state.
buddism (most eastern religions for that matter) cant come right out and say it, but their purpose is to strip away the illusions you cling to for comfort so that you may know authentic suffering.
guru = destroyer of illusions
