Amaranth flour replacing BRF
    #7564149 - 10/26/07 05:49 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

High nutrient content in Amaranth grain makes me wonder if it would worth trying feeding the mycelium with it. Anybody ever tried it?

What 's your thoughts?

Good information on Amaranth here.

In my humble opinion I do believe it would make for an excellent substitute for BRF!!!!  In fact when I go to Whole foods next I will pick some up as well as some sea kelp;)  Nutes up the wazoo!!!!  I got some Mazapatec for that one!!!!!!!:burnone:

That's a good idea. Are there any other high nutrient additives one can add to a standard BRF/verm substrate to encourage healthy mycelium growth?

You'll need to pressure cook it. BRF can be steamed.

maybe amaranth flour can also be steamed. I don't know what the endospore count on amaranth is.

Someone who can find the stuff could try a few jars steamed just to see what happens.
