this is the first flush from these cakes. small as these mushies are, some of their veils are already starting to break. is it possible that a whole flush can be abhorts? should i keep waiting? the pins showed up five days ago.

pick the ones where the veil has broken . aborts are pins that start to rot rather than forming a growing mushroom .. if they turn black pick them off and try for a second flush .. you can dunk it too overnight to try to rehydrate it .. good luck

i see what looks to be an abort in the cluster of avg size mushrooms growing on your PF style cake. aborts wont drop their veil..they wont mature enough to do so. but as for the black spot (low res) amongst the cluster? pick it all now before it drops spores and makes a mess

Yup pick the ones that have broken there veils, aborts can be picked also as they are not going to grow any further.
I can see ne that looks like it has turned black, pic that off.
Once the flush has finished, dunk it for 24 hours.
Is your humidity high enough?? and are you giving plenty of FAE, misting (once pins form stop misting, this can cause aborts) also,
u can sit the cake in a saucer of water if u suspect that your cakes are a little dry

You can set the cakes that are fruiting in a saucer of water, and they'll soak it up over a period of 12 to 24 hours. There's no reason you can't do that during fruiting. RR

i think the problem was not enough RH. i'm using the poor man's pod and decided to put extra holes in the sides of my container for FAE. the hygrometer was reading 85%. i have now filled these holes with silicon and now fresh air only gets through the top of the container, after coming in from the bubbler. the hygrometer now reads 95%. and already the mushies are growing bigger. i also injected the cakes with h2o.
