Make sure to place it into a small container with damp-rid (calcium chloride) in the same container - but not touching the print.

Contaminates love fresh, moist spores and the quicker you can dehydrate the spores the better. Won't prevent a contaminated print but it is one more thing in the process that can be done to reduce it's risk...

I didn't think about putting desiccant in there, that's a really smart idea. I already had my blank syringe ready to go and so I put the cap into this glass candy dish I have with a flat bottom and a dome lid (I'll take pics later when I get home) Left the cap there for about 20 hours, pulled it off, took this pic, and then put this print into the syringe. my whole syringe is purple as hell.

A bit overkill for a syringe, you could have made several syringes from that.

Oh well, u will definatly get spores in all your jars from that, u could probably spread that 1 syringe out very far since its overloaded with spores.

Has someone removed the link??? dont see a picture

looks great. you should have something next to it to compare size. i just did my first print today to. my print actually turned out to big a bigger diameter than the cap itself, it was weird. did this happen to you to? anyways good job man.

myco- i had no idea you had to dehydrate prints, glad i read this.

They will dehydrate on their own but if you plan on storing the print for any length of time you'll want to let a desiccant speed things up and make sure that it's 100% dry.

---
Have to be careful though, calcium chloride (damp-rid) is exothermic (gives off heat) when it comes into contact with water so getting any directly on the print will "burn" the spores as it dries them. Still, it's remarkably effective for dehydrating prints. Don't use it for drying fruits, but for prints it's the tits...

An old science experiment is to get a 1/2 cup of water and pour it into a 1/2 of damp rid and take the temperature. Might want to make sure it's pyrex and that you do it over the sink anyways because every once in a while it get so hot so fast it'll cause the glass to break.

I cut the stalk really close to the cap, so the gills were actually laying against the glass. The print was exactly the size of the cap, maybe a tiny bit bigger because I could tell the print was done by looking at the cap (there must have been a very small black ring around the cap) I'm guessing you had a bigger nub of stalk and your cap was raised in the air a bit? That would probably result in a larger print. This print I took was roughly the size of a quarter. Here are some pictures of the candy dish I bought specifically for this function. The glass itself has a nice pattern similar to the spore prints, so it looks really nice when you print right in the center.

Thats a nice find, as long as it lets humidity escape which it must do otherwise u would have had a rotten shroom.

Let us know how your syringe turned out.

To be safe i would just inoc 1 jar with your syringe as a test jar, just incase. No point in waisting all that substrate.

Or if you work with agar, inoc that and grow it out. If it does contam start isolating until u have a clean sample.

Would be a shame to knock up 5 jars and find all contam.

Too late, but that's a good idea that I'll use next time. I'd have to learn how to do shit with agar though..
