i am new at this, so this might not be worth squat, but you think if you had a bubbler, you could use the fae to keep gnats out. i mean, they buzz around, and like all things in nature, you would think that they would go for the path of least resistance so they would not go in to the fc. any how, i think i saw some where on this sight, if you kept small glasses of alcohol,(maybe specifically brandy)gnats would go for that and drown.

I'd be nice if you could describe your terrarium a bit more. I don't see how gnats could get into a well kept box with a lid on it. If the turbulence is strong enough, then yes, gnats would be unable to survive. I would suggest that you either 1.) Seal your FC so gnats cannot get in. If they do, and they mate on your casings, your going to get maggots. If you decide to seal the FC, and you still find gnats, they have already mated. 2.) Purchase (or make your own) nicotine pesticide, and lightly(VERY LIGHTLY) mist the outside of you FC. Then, you could probably place a small crucible of nicotine pesticide inside the FC.

They avoid turbulence, but it's also likely to dry out your substrates. Try this if gnats are a problem. Cut a lemon in half and drop it into the bottom of a quart jar. Keep the lid next to the jar. The gnats will be attracted to the citrus, and when there's a bunch in the jar, quickly put the lid on before they can get away, and dispose of them. RR

I like to vacuum the fuckers. I have been dealing with these things since I left too many beer cans laying around in the kitchen. Re-cycling has its downsides.
I pull my casings out a few times a day and fire up the vacuum and suck those bastards right out of my FC and casings.
Cheers

a good fly trap is... take an herbal shaker.. one with fairly large holes...
fill it about half way with apple cider vinegar and let them go in that.. they'll drown and your problem is solved. flies love the scent of that stuff.. we use it at my restaurant and every night they are filled with flies and insects...

They looooove stale beer and wine. Leave a half full bottle of either lying around for a couple of days, not more, and they'll crawl in and drown in the stuff. change the bottle every couple of days.
