patch digging.

I wanna dig up some of my patch to use as spawn to alder chips in a rubber tub covered with tin foil.
Would this get me more yeild than waiting for it to come back next year?
I think I should dig up half the patch and leave the other half to come back next year, its starting to freeze so I gotta decide what to do early.
So I wanna make my own patches out in the woods closer to my house than the patch is. Decent drive away.
What do I use to dig it up? What should I put it in a palstic bag?

how about u take a woodchip or two thats colonized in mycelium, only a few, and use those to make cardboard spawn over the winter, and spawn it to fresh woodchips in the spring, for it to colonize before fall.
if u think about it woodchips = wood paper = wood cardboard = wood
woodlovers will eat up just about any paper product like its crack and hookers. no need to dig up a patch, that would only cause the original to either stop fruiting or produce MUCH less next season, and it would be completely counterproductive.

Well on 1 shroom i accidentally ripped it up and there was some mycelium on the bottom, and I put it in a bag till I got home a few hours later and then boiled some water and used it to hydrate the chips then cooled it with cold water and put it in a tupaware and put the mycelium in that also I drained it in a strainer first.
Do you think a small peace of mycelium will take?

It might, but you would want to use the grow forum for those types of questions. But, since you've asked, try using cardboard to get a nice strong swawn, then add wood chips.
Later.

All it takes, like the Captain said, is a couple chips. You don't need to dig up half the patch. And unless you plan on adding to the existing patch at least 5x its size in fresh nutrients (chips) all you will do is kill it quicker. Take a few clean chips with mycelium and experiment, like someone else suggested, before committing to digging up anything. I'm sure there is some zen shit someone could say but sounds to me like you're getting greedy. And the season isn't near over. All it takes is 2-3 good myceliated chips to 1/2 pint of pasteurized chips and you can start a new patch. And it will be all yours...

I don't know HOW many times I've actually posted the following but:
Since you know a patch of Cyans and you pick them anyway, take few spore print (tin foil, Isopropyl Alcohol and an upside down glass), make a spore syringe and do as you'd do it with Cubensis. Use the PF Tek, all normal. You'll see that within two weeks the jars are fully colonized and be ready to be crumbled and spawned to a gallon of soaked wood chips. Your contam rate is going to decrease dramatically and you won't have to take ANY wood chips with you (though a FEW are not harmful to the patch). Believe me, it WORKS! and it's all easy...
