I'm trying to get feedback and generate as much conversation as possible regarding this topic within the entheogen using community. I've already started the discussion on another thread so please visit http://www.entheogen.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13998 to see my ideas and her the discussion up to this point. Thanks.

They tried this. It was called the 60's.
You can ask a bunch of people working at your local record shop how well it worked.

I like the Tolkien reference in your sub-title on the other forum. He created such beautiful words and stories behind them.
It looks like you've done a good job organizing your thoughts on entheogens. If you were able to establish such a religious as legally legitimate, I would join just for the sake of raising awareness of the potentials of psychedelic use.

My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

They already exist...check out the Native American Church, and also the UDV (Unaoi de vegetal) and Santo Daime.

Looks like an interesting web site. I may have to register.
As far as a religion goes. Do we really need another? Of any kind?

How about not a religion, but an organization. Kinda like the NRA, except with psychs? We could promote safe use of psychedelics and stuff.

The benefit of establishing a 'religion' is legal recognition, especially in the case of one that incorporates the use of psychedelics. I see no qualm with the addition of such a religion as it could protect people legal harassment in their pursuit of tripping/life/spirituality/happiness/etc, which from personal experience sucks major balls.

Perhaps “organized religion” isn’t really the term I’m going for. If you read my posts on the EDOT forum where I started this conversation you’ll see that what I’m going for is really more of a “common name” or “common identity” . . . a neutral word that most of us could rally behind, regardless of beliefs or practices, that would help unify the entheogen community. This way we will all be using the same language and be able to organize much easier and quicker when the times change sufficiently to allow for a shift in the political & social environments. The common name I’m proposing is “Entheogenics” or maybe “Entheogenist”.
