Mushroom Noise
    #7559238 - 10/25/07 01:26 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I realized a while back that every time i trip hard on mushrooms i get this backround noise thats quite prominent but i dont even realize im hearing it sometimes.

I'll try to describe it, its a real twangy effect like a guitar would have but drawn out and the tone changes.

Weeeeawwwwwooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwhhhuuurrrrrr.

Similar to the sound you get on a large hit of nitrous but not so fast, for me nitrous would be like wahhwahhwahhwahhhwahhwahhh really quick and metallic like. This has a more earthy sound. A flange effect per se, and its continuously changing, never staying the same pitch but always fairly low on the scale never high pitched.

The place the sound is coming from is not able to be pinpointed, its just coming from all around me but i find it grows louder if i stare into the sky. Anyone else get a similar effect?

i know what you're describing. to me it sounds like a faint and distant ringing that, as you say, cannot be pinpointed to any specific location.

my best guess is that it is quantum noise, the symphony of the microcosm.

with mushrooms it's usually too weird to know for sure.

The ear itself can hallucinate.  Not the mind making up noises but the ear sending sounds to the brain that it didn't really hear.  I've heard the noise too, I dunno if its part of the shrooms (like watery eyes, runny nose) or what but I've heard it too.  Like all humans experiencing something for the first time I thought I discovered something completely new, a never before heard sound. Alas, nothing new is experience anymore

this isnt related to anything but I had the worst static vision last night before I went to bed. My wall was literally blue specs of light dancing and patterns were everywhere and shit. Not to mention my dresser had monkeys climbing on it and they jumped into some vortex... ALL WITHOUT DRUGS WHAT THE FUCK! However I did have a ringing in my ear which some people attribute to DMT so lyke is that a conscious DMT experience or why the hell would I trip without a substance

I actually hear a noise very similar to what people are describing, when everything is dead silent, usually when I'm about to fall asleep. It's really hard to describe, but it's like a high pitched mulit-tonal background noise. I don't have to be tripping to hear it, though it's more apparent whilst tripping.

I get the same thing, i think its your subconcious turning on, or DMT being released into your mind to induce dreams.

You might get very faint flashes of white light aswell, just before you fall asleep.

If you train your mind a bit you can kind of "stick a spanner in the works" and go into some really bizzare waking dream states

i can relate to that. i experience these things quite a lot. sometimes my eyes will even spontaneously open wide and i'll feel these intense vibrations move around my temple. only for a short moment, my vision is improved drastically before the waves diminish.

trippy.

I think I hear something different. And I don't even know how to describe it. But I know someone out there hears the same thing, because I've listened to Shpongle, and some of their stuff sounds exactly like it.
The only way I know to describe it is that it's something like organic machinery. I can make the sound with my mouth. You just close your lips and suck in air, just hard enough that it can be heard.... if that makes any sense. You have to have some spit up there too.
It's hard to explain in words. Anyway, yeah I get a totally different sound. Or maybe I'm just hearing the same thing differently.

Yeah, last time I heard something that was kind of like a doppler or flanger effect. You can hear them alot in Shpongle, like towards the end of Shpongle Falls. That whoosing kinda sound.

Ive herd Noises on mushrooms as well.

First trip i ever had (bad one) it turned out to be way more intense then i thought it would be. As my friends head was shrinking there were these voices "Commanding" The hallucinations if you can believe that. It was a tribal type yell that sounded almost like the sounds in this video.

(go 29 seconds into the video)

Anyway it was the most amazing shit ever. One of the reasons i believe in "spirits" with drugs

I eventually started hearing visuals, and seeing the connections between all sensory processes.
All of the geometries and interconnected processes were fused.
One could work for the other in other words.

Music is all architecture if listened to in the right way.
Some music is more complex and psychedelic than the others.
Kind of like how we visualise physical constructions that are right in front of our face.
Some architecture is really boring. Cognitively, consciously, and verbally between two people.

The music that leaks its perfection and structure from the uncontrived mind is very special to me and doesnt belong to me.

It doesnt have to sound like music we know of today.
But to record that information would sell albums......lol.

I cant explain it in full because I used to on this site and its just not worth it.

There is a complexity and order to these sounds.

Let me say for sure, that it only gets better as you start to learn how to hear its complexity. There is no recipe for this though.
Its not just a pixilated hummmmmm, or afew frequencies interacting.
Its a fractal, with more layers than you are likely capable of hearing.
Some people can only sort of dive through the first few feet of its depth or it takes more time and energy to dive in further.

It only gets better.
Its actually really important if you ask me, but Im not about to explain why.
The first time I was banned from this site it was because of this topic.

People didnt believe me, and I sort of made fun of them for thinking I was for some reason, bullshitting everyone.

LSD causes the greatest connection to this complexity and auditory interaction in my experience. You dont have to believe me though.

There are things in your head that are so amazing and breathtaking, yet they dont belong to you, and thats where the story starts.

Most people wouldnt believe the shit I have to say about audio visuals.
Even my one and only trip buddy cant hear them very well.
He only hears hints that bounce off of every other sound he hears in his "real life".
He didnt believe me at first.
He had some half brained explanation much like what many people would come up with.
He eventually needed to see that I was not lieing.
So then he took 5 grams of shrooms once again.
He never talked about it again.
He saw alot that night, and was very surprized given his strong ego that I had seen it years before he did.
In good spirit he, did not care about me and what I had to do with his psychedelic experiences.
He moved on.
Same thing I did afew years before him.

We only trip alone these days, and I basically dont trip anymore.

Everything is connected especially for schizotypal folks.
We knew when this became too important to experience with other people for the most part.

These sounds are some sort of axiom.
I hope someone puts my post to good use.
I shit you not.
These sounds are VERY important because they are fused with everything else.
To explain that would take 5000 long posts.

Holography my friends..........lol

It takes much less time in person, if with the right person.

I can somewhat relate to what you are saying. When I'm on acid I tend to hear music in my head. It has characteristics of psychedelic electronical music. It's style has a lot to do with what is going on in my mind at the moment. It sort of reflects my mindset. When I'm relaxed I hear these mellow and harmonical ("pure" sounding) evolving soundscapes. When I'm exited the music is quite fast paced and has very "exited" undertone. It goes for any emotion I may experience. I've noticed the same thing on bigger doses of LSA.
Same goes for fractals. They reflect my mindset and emotions. The music and fractals have always seemed connected, but I haven't thought about it that way.
After reading yagemans post it seems quite possible that it's the same signal, but just received through different senses. I must take a dose soon to figure all this out.

Thats intersting.
I feel the same way about smoked dmt, and more so, ayahuasca.

Changed even my dreams forever, and I mean in a very good way.
Even though some of the dreams are purely alien and take me to places I sometimes might not want to go within a dream.
Even those places were warrented and I invited them.

After my 1st ayahuasca experience I had my first lucid dream.

I've noticed noise being interconnected with movement, personally. I don't know how this is possible, but even sober, if there's a song playing almost everything seems to go to the beat of the song. Like, I'll watch my friends eat macaroni and it'll be synched up. Or like, even things independent from human interaction. I'm probably just crazy though.

i usually hear noises at the end of a trip, especially
if i was tired and laying down to sleep...
to me it sounds like its energy flowing...cosmic energy...thats how i thought of it...
but i know on its basic level its most likely just auditory hallucinations caused by the psilocin bouncing around and getting locked into that part of the brain...still pretty fascinating thou, some of the things you can hear

i tripped almost every week for about 5 months on shroom capsules..many times on doses exceeding 8g (3g blew most of the people i knew away)...even on doses as low as 3g for me (at the start) i heard noises at the ends of my trips...on 6-8g even more intense...
the last trip i took was the last 12g i had...with 2 weeks recovery time from the previous trip..
blew my freaking mind...
i haven't tripped since but i had a nice run of experimenting

::reaches over to bookshelf::

The Invisible Landscape (terence and dennis mckenna)

Chapter 6

"...We also had occasion to ingest synthetic tryptamines and had observed as a regular feature of the tryptamine intoxication a peculiar audile phenomenon. This is a very faint, but definetely perceivable, harmonic overtone of varying pitch and frequency that seems to emanate from inside ths skull while one is under the influence of tryptamines; the exact nature of this harmonic tone eludes precise verbal description, as it varies in quality and amplitude during the course of the tryptamine experience, first manifesting itself as an extremely faint sound on the very edge of audibility, rather akin to the sound that might proceed rom distant wind chimes. This sound gradually increases in volume a very few minutes after it is percieved, taking on an electric, buzzing quality that might be compared in some respects to whistling wind or running water. Understandably, one might be inclined to classify this sound as merely an audile hallucination induced by the psychoactive agent, were it not for the fact that it exhibits several specific and regularly noticeable features that would seem to set it apart from the class of hallucinated auditory phenomena, sometimes reported in literature dealing with psychedelics. One such feature is the specific association of this phenomenon with the ingestion of hallucinogens with structures close to tryptamine, that is, the psilocybin-DMT compounds and harmine-tetrahydoharmine complex found in Banisteriopsis caapi and B. rusbyana. The reports of similar phenomena being noted for mescaline or the lysergamides are rare; while, according to the Naranjo, approximately 50 percent of the subjects under the influence of ayahuasca commonly experience an extremely loud buzzing sound, emanating from the interior of the skull, during the course of the experience. Individual reports of the subjectively perceived phenomenon exhibit a high degree of similarity."

I believe they eventually conclude that they are hearing the electron spin resonance of their own DNA.

They also believe they were contacted by an ancient intelligence residing within the mushrooms they were finding, that revealed to them much of their current knowledge. I believe that happened to me too, though.

Try some 4-HO-Mipt And you will definitely hear the machines.
Usually the machine noise is accompanied by incredible closed eye morphing organic machine structures.
Also I get a pressure on my sinuses and cheekbones when the sounds are at their strongest.

This is why I always trip alone and quiet.
I love to explore the internal topographies.

the fact that it is sourceless makes it really strange. not in a bad way. just in a takes-a-few-minutes-to-realize-what-has-happened kind of way.

next time i shall see if staring at the sky makes a difference for me too. perhaps that effect has something to do with the ear's role in determining up and down?

more power to the mystic shroom vibrations!

I hear this any time it's quiet. It's pretty much constant, I think, it's just more audible at some times than others. It's definitely louder if I sit and try to listen to it, less so if I'm ignoring it.

Really anytime there's not some kind of background noise I hear it.

This is a fascinating topic,

On my last trip when i started to peak i tried to go to sleep as i was physically knackered. I had the most intense closed eye visuals and some very frightening imagery.

Then i started to hear some very fucked up noises that scared the hell out of me, kinda like in that video of the guys face morphing, those kinda sounds, organic bubbling, rippling. I can play it back in my head!! That trip was nuts!

The sounds didnt match up to backgrown noises.

A previous trip had some weird audio effects, like audio going out of sync while watching tv, characters stuttering, and everynow and then the characters would splurt out giberish.

Maybe its because im a sound engineer, and have a slightly more well tuned ears, but for me anyway shrooms play havoc on my hearing.

I get the sound sometimes, but only on very high doses. The first time I heard this sound was when I took grams of mushrooms with 4 grams of syrian rue. About 10 minutes after ingesting my mushrooms I started to notice this sound. It was a buzzing noise. At first it was just one pitch and wasn't all to special. I was watching Waking Life and the noise was really starting to get to me. It was getting to the point where I could not hear the movie because the noise was way too loud.

Well here is where I started to have a bad trip and I ended up telling my friends that they have to leave because I was having paranoid delusions that they were plotting against me behind my back. After they left it was just me and this sound. Once I was alone with this sound I actually started to listen to it, which is what I should have done from the beginning.

Once I started listening it started to sound like some kind of super synth with every imaginable and even unimaginable effects you could ever think of. I think I understand what you are talking about yageman, because I believe that this sound is a fractal too. As you sit and concentrate on the sound you can here more and more layers. Sort of like some crazy shpongle shit x99999999999999999999999. I do believe that the sound is the result of some infinite audio fractal.

This is why I think that the sound starts as something very noisey like a buzz. The layers are so infinite it just sounds like a bunch of noise. But as you focus and tune in the layers start to come out.

I have only gotten the sound once more since that experience and I love to get it. I can just turn off all of the music and sit in silence. But I guess it isn't really silence is it.

~Peace Out

:cuckoo:

I get the exact same effect here. The way you typed it summed it up pretty perfect actually, it definitely has a flange sort of feel to it, and it's a bit of an airy sound (for me anyways), that stays pretty low. Always fascinated me, and its cool to hear other people have the same sort of thing going on.

For me it sounds like computers making love at first.

This video sort of illustrates its beginnings for less than a minute.

The sound is always here and there. Noticing it is just part of the hyper awareness one gains within a trip. Once initially noticed, it may become more accessible.

There are lots of those sounds. More and more come over the years. They make a music.
