How much light should I give my Salvia and Kratom?

I am wondering how much light to give these guys. Id like them to grow nice and fast, but I am wondering if some dark is needed. I can give them basically whatever they want, I am thinking of setting something up in the basement for them. I am going to use CFL lights, probably 40watt or whatever the largest I can find locally.
Thanks

Kratom: as much light as you can get. Salvia: not much light at all. 2 x 18W Fluoro is enough for a whole bunch off sallys

think about nature, the sun does not shine continuously.
u wont see great growth from your kratom with cfl's i dont think, maybe when they are small but not when they are bigger... cfl's are certainly enough for salvia though.

Salvia can withstand very much light aswell. It grows damn fast under (and toward) my 400W MH, much faster than in shade / partial shade. It really can thrive in many diffrent environments.. its adaptable

I was going to suggest a couple flouros since I know they prefer shade, but currently don't have light for mine either. Will be getting a couple CFLs, good to see they work fine

Royer- same one its about twice the size now.. I was thinking Id put it under some light with the Kratom. My friend told me to cut it in half and leave the half just sitting on my windowsill and it will grow roots, then I can plant it.. Needless to say I am a little hesitant to do that.. what do you think?
So all I have for lights are these big CFLs.. I don't think Im going to run any MH or anything seperate for the Kratom.. I think the Salvia should like these things as well. I guess I'll put everything on a 16on/8off schedule, sound good?
Thanks guys!

what size cfl's do you have and how many??
also i would let the cactus grow for a bit more before you cut it, it was 3-4 inches when i gave it to you so it is 6-8 inch's now?? either way let it get bigger first before you take cuttings. also make sure it has a good size pot so the root system can grow .

kratom is photogenic and will vary its leaf sturcture depending on light conditions. it will drop leafs when it only has little light and grow more when it has more light to absorb, its a very smart plant and has completely different needs than salvia other than slight humidity.
ive even found these two to run on two different feeding schedules, and even though salvia does flower but once in a long time it still requires more phosphates than other plants and veggies or it turns reddish purple. kratom likes goood nitrogen-rich compost made of good organics and worm castings.

Thanks for the tips guys.
I can totally setup two different area's for the plants. I didn't want to use really heavy duty lights as Im already using a fair bit of electricity.
royer: I have 45Watt CFL's. Just two of them for now but I haven't really setup my space yet. I think I can get as many as I need.
The pedro pup is yes, about 8" high right now. So you think I should wait to cut it? Sounds fine to me.. I am very questionable about its root structure. It doesn't seem to be all that rooted into the soil I have placed it in, and its been in there awhile. It has a tendency to just fall over. Not really sure why, wondering if I should repot it into something it would like better, or maybe I was thinking of just putting 1/2" of sand on top, to hold it in a little better and maybe help roots form stronger underneath the sand.
Thoughts?

try not to use sand, small rocks/pebbles would work better :-)
yea i would leave it until it has a nice root system and grows more :-)
