Drug use a problem at concert

Authorities say drug use and drug sales were widespread at recent concerts in Loveland.
In fact, one of the 18 people arrested on suspicion of selling drugs at Widespread Panic shows Oct. 12 and 13 reportedly offered cocaine to an officer.
The deputy was not wearing a uniform, but he was carrying a flashlight and talking into a hand-held radio when approached by a Boulder woman.
“This (person) came up to him and said, ‘Dude, you wanna buy some coke?’” said Eloise Campanella, spokeswoman for the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. “He said, ‘Sure.’”
The officer bought a gram of the drug, then broke out the handcuffs, said Sgt. Joe Shellhammer, head of the Sheriff’s Criminal Impact Unit.
“We were all astonished,” Shellhammer said.
The woman, identified as 23-year-old Kristen Johnson, is charged in 8th Judicial District Court with distribution of drugs and possession with the intent to sell. She was released from the Larimer County Detention Center Oct. 15 on $15,000 bond.
She is one of 18 (none from Loveland) charged with selling drugs either inside the Budweiser Events Center or in the parking lot, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies seized 2 ounces of cocaine and 70 tablets of Ecstasy, Shellhammer said.
There were not enough officers to arrest the people smoking or sharing marijuana, so the deputies focused solely on felony charges, he said.
The drug officers were at the Widespread Panic concert because officials from other venues that had hosted the Southern rock band’s shows reported problems with cocaine and Ecstasy, Shellhammer said.
His unit, formed last year, likely will attend more concerts to fulfill its mission of battling street-level drug issues.

What a stupid bitch. She walked up to someone with a walkie talkie and offered them coke at a concert? Uh, unless you are talking about a festival, the only people I have ever seen with walkie talkies are staff/security.
At the same time, if the drug use at the concert isn't causing trouble, then why do they feel the need to have a specific force just for jam band concerts.
Reminds me of when I went to a Metallica concert years back and a sod war broke out amongst the drunks. Of course, no cops where there to bust people for alcohol, and I doubt that a bunch of stoners/trippers would have started a sod war.
Fuck the ignorant drug war.

Yea no doubt, that was dumb of her to not even look. But people running around selling coke at festies probably aren't the brightest people imo. Who knows

Why not just lock the doors of the arena with everyone inside? Make it a jail. Hold them in there for 30 days. They should all be punished for having that dried plant in their possession.

With all the problems alcohol causes, and they are aloud to sponsor events centers, promoting more drinking. I can't stand concerts anymore. I always feel used and targeted by ad campaigns and corporate logos. It seems nothing can resist the entrepreneurs these days. The concerts(even small venues) and festivals aren't even around for music anymore. They're a big business. Not like this is news to any one here though. Why don't the musicians care? Cause they are all a part of it too? They ultimately have no power? They don't care?

i agree with you. i have been disgusted with the treatment at such places. i don't get treated like the paying customer i am, i get treated as if buying the ticket alone is probable cause. i went to a place to see STS9 and everytime i went outside to have a smoke i had to wait in a long ass line and get searched. killed my mushroom trip.
those places are fucked up and i have been sticking to the underground.

Memphis this year at Widespread was horrible with cops, people getting cars searched and shit in the lot. Of course I figured this would happen since they played at the Fed Ex Forum this year, when they played at the Mid-South Colleseum we never had those problems. It's all the corporate ass holes that cause the problems, they're pissed because they don't get the big beer sales at the shows. St. Louis was good this year though, no problems except for a dumb ass girl got hit by a car in front of the show really fucked with my head, because me and my friends started laughing till people started staring at us, kinda made me feel bad, until I forgot about it like 2 minutes later. It did make my friend have a not so fun trip though. Oh well.

I don't think they are a part of it. I think it's part of the system. They have no choice in the matter. I think it has more to do with those who promote and book their concerts. I also think it has something to do with the lack of alcohol sales that go on at the show. I am sure that a hippie audience more interested in getting fucked up in a mind expanding way hurts income for the arena. I for one don't drink and have no problem going to a show on my own idea of a good time.
In one weekend, I went to a Lincoln park show and an Allman Brothers/Ratdog show. The two crowds were completely different. One was not a fun time filled with angry drunk assholes looking for a fight and the other was filled with happy, friendly, not so drunk people. I'd have to say that I enjoyed one much more than the other, and I'm sure you can all guess which one was better. I don't like the way alcohol makes people act. However, I find that people fucked up on illicit substances are a lot more loving and an awesome crowd to be with. Also, I find that tripping people are better when you are tripping while drunks give off a negative energy.
Fuck the system and fuck alcohol.

No matter who was at a Lincoln Park concert, it would still suck because their music sucks.

I agree. The only reason I was there any was free tickets. I have a hard time turning those down just so I can say "Been there, done that."
