My cat just became a victim of black dots in her LC. She read on here about black dots sometimes being either contams or spores clumping together, she figured the former since they kept multiplying. Also, there wasn't so much white networks, but a bunch of white clumps of fuzz like a snow globe. She also read that contams will sit on the bottom, and that's where most of it was. She decided to toss since she was sure the jar wasn't cleaned before making.
One lingering question, has nothing really to do with above. How should the kitty add h2o2 to the brf cakes when innoculating with LC.
If she steams the substrate after jarring, then the h202 will breakdown. Sould she add the h2o2 with a clean syringe after cooldown/before inoculation?
Also, what about creating a set of jars a la the "neimad method" sort of...
1.) put dry verm and brf into jars (except for top layer with no brf) 2.) bake jars at 400F (or whatever) for a while, and cool overnite. 3a.) Then adding clean water/h202 via syringe just before the innoc. with LC, or no H202 with MS. 3b.) or maybe using a .25 cup of LC per .5 pint jar for more bang?
I guess you could just move the syringe around a bit to try and evenly distribute the water. The point would be to super sterize the substrate and then add clean water and a little h202 for an LC innoc. The problem as i recall with the original neimad method, was that it was an open air transfer of substrate to jar, which added contams. But this time, the substrate is already in the jars, it just has to be moistened, and inoculated. Unless the water is unsanitary, or no H2o2 is added for a MS, i would think it could be done with no contams. I don't have a PC (yet), so that's why all the fuss.
I could be wrong, i'm only new.
What do you guys think? I'm sure it's been tried, but i haven't found it here yet. The only problem i see is possibly cooking the substrate from being so hot.

Spotting contams in an LC is very hard, it sounds like you know its contaminated. So get rid of it, or if you must try make up a test jar.
H202 is going to break down no matter what, and it isnt really going to help anything.
h202 is only really usefull for fighting of an cobweb infection, which is very rare in jars.
The problem i see, is the substrate is not going to have even moisture, and snce the BRF has been mixed dry its not gonig to evenly coat the vermiculite, and might not fully colinsise the jar.
I dont think this is a very good method, the PF TEk is much simpler than this and works.
Oh, u dont need a pressure cooker for PF Tek (though its prefered) you can steam sterilise your jars, put some water in a big pot, lay something down so the jars dont sit on the floor of the pot, close lid and get as good a seal as you can and let steam for 90 minutes at a rolling boil.
