Here are the initial pictures of 1:1 ratio rye/millet to water soaked coir and (diluted coffee) to coir.

^^^ Coffee soaked coir

^^^ Water soaked coir
This is the coffee soaked coir colonizing

This is the water soaked coir colonizing

Ive got some rye soaking in 2liters of water with 3/4 a cup of coffee, will be the next log i post.
So, the race is off, more pic's to come.
Not going to let my personal feelings overshadow the topic at hand.

No coffee grounds, just coir soaked in diluted black coffee...
Maxwell house original roast to be exact. It's still to early to really tell how well the coffee will out preform the water soaked coir but from here the mycelium on the coffee coir is recovering a hell of alot thicker then that of the coir soaked in water. Will keep updated.

Hmm...my gut tells me there's more protein and therefore nitrogen available in the coffee grounds than the brewed coffee itself. Brewed coffee = acidic...with coffee...and I thought tannins....not really protein or nitrogen.
But if it works, then I may be wrong...I know a lot of ppl do it. Anyone wanna chime in on this?

The pure black coffee as you said is acidic, raising the overall p.h of the coir to about the 7.2.7.8 margine hence it helps aid against contamination, also i'm testing the ability of useing black coffee for the tradtional well known nitrogen/akloid boost. I forgot to add the coir is un-pasturized.
I am over tired and need to travel to a diffrent city in hopes of finding a real job lol, so when i come back i'll take a p.h test of the coir and let you all know exactly where it stands. Until then, take care.

Thanks for editing your first post.
Liquid coffee is slightly acidic, but coir is even more so. Coir runs pH 5 to pH 6.5 depending on origin. Acids lower pH, not raise them. I've found no evidence that coffee boosts potency. It does however, speed up colonization, because it's excellent fungi food. In addition, the lower pH results in faster growth because Cubensis prefers a substrate in the pH 5.5 to pH 6 range.
Using a substrate with an acidic pH like yours results in faster colonization and better performance overall, but also exposes the project to an increased risk of contamination, because molds such as trichoderma also prefer an acidic food source. In my area, the mold spore count is so high, I'd never be able to get a substrate that had been hydrated with liquid coffee colonized before parts of it were green from molds. Hopefully, yours will work out. It's almost colonized. Good luck. RR

K. So the main effect..of using liquid coffee is acidity..,..rather than nitrogen?
I get confused...fungus likes low pH...but then I read about adding lime to casing layers...etc...Why is the lime added, again? It's to raise the pH in the, for example, casing layer....so that the cubensis does not colonize it? Or is the pH raised to prevent contamination of the casing? Both? Kinda cloudy on this still.

the casing layer is a non-nutritious contaminate barrier / humidity-blanket. By making it non-nutritious there is no food-source for contaminates to colonize and by raising the pH we make the environment hostile to their survival so the net result is an inhospitable moist blanket protecting the (relatively) vulnerable mycelium colony below.
Because the mycelium colony below is so well established and has a large food-source at it's disposal it can colonize through the slightly alkaline environment to reach the surface and fruit. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the process of colonizing that non-nutritious, slightly alkaline layer isn't stressful enough to be a fruiting trigger itself.
--- Or something like that... :sigh:

[Update]
I cased them today with a 100% coir layer.
Both containers were runs in 5 days so to say liquid coffee boost the mycelium run is not right but it has supported stronger growth then that of the coir soaked only in water.
Here it was today before casing.

More pics to come.

[Update]
Mycelium has begun penetrating the casing layer so I setup the fruiting chamber and threw in the casings,

Let's see how they fair up

[Bump]
Casing layer has been run and the coir coffee casing is showing much more fruit body production then the water soaked coir.
Here's a overview shot of them side by side in the FC.

and since my cam sucks here's some really blurry shots at the c/coir fruit bodies

Last night the pins you can see now were just primordia, it's only been 12 hours since I last looked at them
I'll update in a few days I guess.
