Moving Out Questions

im planning on moving into a place of my own and i was wondering how much money ill need to save up before doing so.
i was thinking around $5000. i definitely want to live on my own. i also want washing/drying machines. all i have is the stuff in my room...bed, desk, dresser, TV. ill need cutlery things, towels, cleaning things, and furniture(well, not need, but want).
ill have a while to save up and plan for this and i want to make sure that im prepared.
what other things should i keep in mind when saving up for this?
will $5000 be enough?

$5000 is a shit ton of money

More then enough, depending on what place you're looking at. If you have a job you can plan to have enough for the deposit and the first months rent, then add on for any other expenses.

It depends what city/state/country, and how long do you want to stay there, how big of a place, rent, lease, etc. Also how much you currently make (if at all)? how much do yo eat? What kinda furniture? How much do you smoke? Party?
A lot of "if"s, but 5000 does sound like a good start.

Prices vary greatly, just check out your nearest Lowes or Home DePot if you want a new one or check out the classifieds. You could even get a loan and make monthly payments on whatever you need. Just start buying things one at a time. I can't tell you how much your furniture or silverware will cost, lol. Just do some mental shopping and check it out.

You can apply for a credit card and use it to buy essentials. Just be very very careful with it. They can be life savers but they can also be life screwers.

i live in oregon and the cost of living here is said to be a lot.
right now i only make like $1000/month but im pretty sure that i start my new job on monday and my current boss said that i could stay and work on the weekends...with the two jobs it'll be around $1800/month maybe even $2000/month.
i plan on renting a one/two bedroom decent apartment.
i want new furniture but nothing fancy, just basic furniture.
i do eat pretty healthy and it does cost a bit more.
i dont smoke very often. no parties.

I have recently done what you are wanting to. I can tell you buying used things will SAVE you sooo much money. Get some rich ppls cast off washer and dryer. Same thing with couch and chairs. Keep your eyes open for good deals and dont rush into buying all new things. And hey start smoking more!
cheers

What is the pop of your city?
there is about 30,000 people here. I have a 2 bedroom apt, for only 425$ a month and a 400$ deposit.

Hmm...my 1 bedroom near Boston is $950 a month. I have a partner to help pay bills. If you got a roommate, you'd save a ton of money, even with a 2 bedroom. Do you want to save money? Or would you prefer paying extra to live alone?

i think it's like $400-$600. im pretty sure ill be able to pay rent, live, and save up money. it's just that i like to have a nice chunk of back-up money in case anything goes wrong and id like to be able to have the basics like furniture, coffee table, kitchen table, chairs, ect. right away rather than slowly getting them.

With $1200 a month, you would probably be fine. You have to figure in utilities too, especially with your own washer and dryer. $5000 for startup is plenty, just as everyone else has said. You should be able to get quite nicely equipped with that much. If there is an IKEA near you, that's the route for furniture I would go. It's relatively cheap, but still looks decent. Most likely you could furnish the enitre place for under $1000, plus give or take another $1000 for washer and dryer if you buy them new, and you are still well off.

Dude you can get used washer/dryer for like $75 or less each there's no way I'd spring for brand new on that. All my furniture is used or inherited from other people and I don't have any problem with it.
