CYANESCEN QUESTIONS

I have a few questions about cyans. This is my 3rd season and despite it only being OCT 24, it has been without doubt the best one yet!!!! I have yielded a nice size amount so far, about 8 or 9 dried ounces. Surely you all know within this time frame that is ALOT of picking, mind you, I have picked all of these shrooms myself. So I have ran into alot of interesting specimens during all of this picking that have striked some confusions and question in my head... Now this patch of mine is one of those patches that isnt just a patch, its like a vast area of giantic bunches of cyans. in essence there are like 7 patches within aboutt he area of a good size house.
anyway some of my questions: some of the patches are really nice and crisp producing cyan specimens while others seem to have cyans that seem to mature way to fastly in growth and look very dark brown and some babies caps are already kinda flapped over. its confusing because i wonder why these odd looking patches arent like the other nice crisp patches around the area
how come some of the specimens are fairly niced size, but there cap hasent flapped or folded over really yet. I've noticed that these types typically have thicker stems, why is this?
any ideas and input are appreciated

I have a similar problem. I have a decent sized patch when 3 days ago had many mature and pinning perfect looking cyans but recently after ALOT of rain almost every single mushroom is very blue all over. The whole cap one about 3/4 of all of them patch is either black, dark blue or just slightly blue. Are the ones that are blue still safe to eat ocne dried???

Mushrooms are very picky about their conditions. If the mushrooms start to dry and then a rain comes, this causes them to rot.
Also if something looks odd, it may also mean it's a different species than you were hoping for. Don't get caught up so much that you ignore ID specs.
If they are just blue, they can be dried out, probably. but if they are black, that means they are rotting, and should not be eaten.
Later.

I think Cyans are quiet easy to ID and after you've picked bigger amounts over the time it's more or less impossible for you to miss-ID them. They often look a little different from each other but that most likely has something to with the substrate conditions. Maybe the ground is already a little exhausted, maybe too man people (without looking for mushrooms), walked over it. Maybe the poor spots are in a place where is a little more wind and the fruits dry faster maybe...
Well you see that there could be several reasons for them to grow different than the ones a few meters away. Don't worry about it.
As for your questions about how healthy it is to eat them I can just say, that I've eaten quiet a lot of weird looking, older Cyans and they all did their duty without harming me. I'd say it's completely safe to eat even the darker ones, though I'd stay away from the black 'n slimy ones for they is just fuckin disgusting
Oh, and don't worry about a little spore slime on their caps (when they grow in big clusters of matured fruits). This is nothing to worry about!
As long as you are SURE that they are Cyans and their not "molested" by white mold or being completely black and goo like, you can eat them!
