New user Weird question
    #7557073 - 10/24/07 09:21 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys

I'm new to this forum so dont know if this is the right place to put this but me and a mate were out walking around Springbrook in Queensland australia, we stumbled accross a patch of mushrooms that after some looking about look identical to the Cubansis mushies..

the only thing that makes us hesitant is they're probably at 10cm tall, the cap maybe 1-2cm around and they were glowing green.... We picked them just cause they glowed green but yeah... I dont know if that's a good or bad thing as neither one of us have ever done much with mushies before.

Let me know it'd help alot, if you need photos I'll take some tonight and post them (am at work currently)

Thanks guys and if this is the wrong forum let me know where to post this sort of thing in the future

Cheers!

EDIT:

Sorry didnt follow the template

Habitat was forrested on a mossy log in a humid/wet area

Dont have anything else since it was late at night and I am at work at the moment, just really wanted to know should it be glowing green? Should I ditch them and keep trying or not?

Probably mycena or Jack-O-Lanters. Not edible, but cool to have as decorations!

Several species of armillaria bioluminesce(glow).

Armillaria gallica, A. mellea and A. tabescens.
I'm gonna see if this is true for A. mellea(honey fungus) that I found the other day. That would be cool to see. Other than that, they are a good edible(if cooked).

Cool,

As I said I'm really new to the whole mushroom thing it's kind of interesting all the different types of mushrooms out there haha.

I identified what they were

They were Mycena lampadis and one they havent identified just called it Mycena type_c

both have a white spore stamp the cap is about 15-20mm for the Type c and 30-40mm for the Lampadis the Type_c has a brown top to the cap which looks cools.

They glow bright green and are mostly found in rotting foilage or on rotting trees which is where we found them, though the site I found them on says nothing about them growing together, we got a mix of both from the same spot.

Anyways I'm thinking of sprinkling some spores in the front yard to have mad green glowing mushrooms at night haha.

anyways thanks guys helped alot for me to narrow down what we'd found. We're probably going out again tonight to see if we can see the other 3 glowing mushroom types on Springbrook mountain.

Let you know how we go and try and get some pictures

Cheers!

EDIT

Also for those interested, here's the 5 types of glowing muchroom they've found on Springbrook
