popcorn tek left a step out

well 2 weeks ago i started my project using the popcorn tek, but i was trying to do everything from memory and left the step out where you bring the popcorn to a boil after letting them soak for 24 hours. I was very disappointed to realize i left this step out but kept the jars to see what they would do. its been two weeks and i can see some growth in two jars the others dont seem to be doing anything but i didnt notice the growth in the second jar until today so im hoping the others will come around. What do you guys think im going to try another batch when i get more spores. also the spores i used where from a sporeprint i took from a wild cube was this a bad idea. I was worried about increased chance of contams but ive seen no signs of contams in my current jars.

Sorry, but I think it would be a miracle if you were able to get a clean sporeprint from a wild fruit. I've personally never done it, although I'm sure someone has.
I doubt you got enough moisture into your popcorn. The boil is mandatory in my opinion. I think it's also a good idea to rinse the popcorn really well before the 24 hour soak. Put the popcorn in a large pot and fill it with water. Stir it around and drain the water out. Do this until the water pours off clear. This will get rid of all the grain dust and other nasties that will tend to make sludge in the bottom of your jars later. Good luck.

well to sterilize since i dont have a pressure cooker i put the jars in boiling water for an hour so contams shouldnt be a problem i was more worried that they just wouldnt grow.

ShroomGuy, boiling doesn't kill endospores. Soaking germinates endospores... Simmering (referred to as boiling in this thread) adds moisture to the grain, this is the only reason for simmering. PC'ing is what kills the endospores that were originally germinated by soaking...
Gainer, sorry dude, but you will get contams. If 100% of your jars don't contam, then monkeys live in my ass. First, you need to isolate heathly mycellium on agar if you're working with wild prints... If you just did a multi-spore inoculation with a wild print, you can bet that there's contams in that syringe too. Also, boiling your jars in water for an hour will not get rid of contams. It'll kill some, but the endospores that were germinated by soaking require much higher temperatures than boiling can produce to kill them, thus PC is a must with grains... Not trying to be an ass, just letting you know not to get your hopes up too high... GL anyway though

I totally agree, but for humors sake I wish one of those jars would make it. Could you post pics of those monkeys if he gets one colonized?
