lime question
    #7555894 - 10/24/07 04:52 PM (16 years, 5 months ago)

ive looked everywhere for lime around here. i live in a rather large city so i figured some plant shops around here would carry it. i found some shit at home depot, was called garden lime, was like little pellet balls and had a alot of other nutrients in it like, calcium coarbonate, magnesium, and lots of others...does this seem unsafe to use?

that type of lime is "dolomitic" and to answer your question, no you can't use it...

Order hydrated lime off ebay, or some other website if you can find it cheaper. You can get 10 lbs for $20 shipped which will last a very long time, I also could not find limestone or any calcium carbonate anywhere.

Pickling Lime _is_ hydrated lime, so works great in a pinch but it's like buying gasoline by the fluid ounce. The cost per pound for that stuff is outrageous...but I've been known to buy it from time to time when I can't find it elsewhere.

Ordering it online is the only way to do it, really...
