Need some advice from someone who knows dogs
    #7555982 - 10/24/07 05:08 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Hey everybody, need some advice. My chihuahua was attacked by a wild boar (in the back yard!) about a week ago. He had to have surgery, lost some teeth and was of course traumatized by the whole thing. He seemed to have been doing better but was having nightmares and just didn't act the same. He is small and timid so he never goes far from home, but on friday he disappeared. We looked everywhere for hours, put up signs, told neighbors, everything to no avail. Does anyone know enough, or have experience with dogs and their behavior to tell me why the fuck he would leave his home while injured? Or has anyone had a dog leave, and come back home after he had been lost for more than a week? I know animals tend to want to be alone when the die, but he was improving, so why would he leave? Does anybody think there's still hope? He was coolest little guy ever, he was this mutant with two rows of teeth, two extra toes and his tail was weird and wagged up and down not side to side. I am still shocked by everything, but how should I deal with this? How can you have closure when you have no idea what happened? Any support, comments anything would be really appreciated. Thanks

just do your best to get the word out, offering a reward will increase your chances of someone finding him.

I think he went off to find somewhere alone to die. It's fairly typical animal behavior from what I know.

I am sorry to tell you this, but a lot of dogs leave home to find a place to leave Earth. I hate to bare bad news, but do not be suprised if you don't see him again.

I hope I am wrong.

Peace.

Chihuahuas are just like that. They kinda suck... I had one named Cookie from when I was about 6 until 15... at which point it was killed by my brother's dog.

But as for help, all you can do is put up signs and hope for the best. Good luck.

chihuahua or however you write that name is NOT a dog. it's an alien being. the boar probably sensed this and tried to destroy that demonic imp.

Yeah...sorry if that's the case.

and what about the boar? did anyone think about him? what nightmares might he have after being confronted by that small creature with extra teeth and claws. probably withering away somewhere due to shock.

or maybe they were in love and scuffling and after you scared the boar away the little shit couldn't live without the boar love and went to look for him?

look on the bright side, hope this all helps.

Sorry for your loss. I respect your dog's right to die on his own terms though. If that's what happened.

To be honest, unless someone picked up your dog and has yet to call you or see your signs, a week pretty much means the animal is gone (at least in my experience). Good luck though and I hope someone did pick up your dog.
