Amanita? Death Cap?
    #7555649 - 10/24/07 04:07 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

So, the girlfriend and I were out walking the dog and she pointed out this huge mushroom all by itself. I've seen pictures that are similar and looked on here for amanita posts but havent been able to come up with a match. Is this an amanita?

It appears to be lepiota procera, a choice edible. You better wait for some more opinions before you eat it. Not amanita because there is no large bulb at the base.

snake like markings on the stem would indicate lepiota procera if my memory serves me right...

Thanks for the quick feedback fellahs. Here is a close up of the stem. If it is a lepiota, could I look online for preparations? I take it this mushroom is not active then?

Definitely not active, hopefully not poisonous. IF it is Lepiota procera rumor has it the large, thin caps can be fried or broiled whole or sliced up.

yeah id go with lepiota procera looking at that stem a bit closer... u could always spore print it and make sure that it is white... infact id recommend u do that if u intend to eat it... and wait for some more opinions also...
