Great post! I am a noob and am thinking of a slightly different approach to humidification. Request comments from more experienced folks here.
I am in a place with average day temperature of >25 deg C, and RH of 20%. Nights will be much cooler, and may go as low as 5 deg C. So I need cooling and Humidification during day for a insulated room of roughly 2500 cubic feet. Basically a dead reefer container.
1. I plan to use a simple, cheap evaporation air cooler. This will drop the temperature to 20 deg C or lower, and will raise the humidity to 50% or thereabouts. I expect this machine will do the bulk of the work, and will also do air exchange. During night, if it gets very cool, I have a source of relatively warmer air, and I will push this into my Mushroom grow room.
2. I will add a couple of ultrasonic humidifiers from Philips or Vicks. I will use a Hygrometer Relay to switch these little devices. I hope this combo can raise and maintain RH around 90%.
3. I plan to drip a dilute Hydrogen Peroxide solution into the humidifiers. Main intention is to raise the Oxygen levels a bit. I am not sure if Mushrooms need more oxygen, or if they just need less Carbon Dioxide. Side effect is that the peroxide will keep the humidifier free of algae and pathogens.
Appreciate all advice that you can give me.
Thanks, regards Karthik

Just wanted to know what yall thought about this fan. And instead of a barrell using a igloo cooler. Sturdier and easier to find. Its 30 cfm , i just can not find a 25 cfm on the dot. Btw ive seen this done with a cooler already i just forgot to ask what blower he was using.

It will work. You don't nees much for a small area. This is what I have.

Oh damn so i could use the same fan i have with a 100-120 qt cooler. I was just worried because everything on here i try to follow to a T until i understand underlying principle. In this case i was worried what the extra cfm would be an issue and that changing the volume to a 100 qt cooler would create more static pressure, but the static pressure is created by the size of the outlettes right? t We just have a small 6x11. We are growing gourmets though and temp is a concern. I was hoping to do blue oyster and shitakes. About how much does your bulk humidifier bring down the temp?Quote:

The GH was in my finished basement which was cool, I honestly didn't track the temps. I grew shiitake and king oysters at the same time, side by side without an issue. I believe that I allowed for a fluctuation in humidity between 70 and 95%. The fan supplied FAE while humidifying. I'm almost certain that I've seen people just drop an ultrasonic pond fogger into an open bucket somewhere in the middle of their grow.
Don't stress out so much about getting things exact, it defeats the purpose of having a relaxing hobby.
This was taken in my GH when it was still up and running:

Nice man, and thanks you are correct about needing to relax. The only think im fastidious with is sterility, but at the same time I've learned how resiliant fully colonized grain is. That's cool that the bulk humidifier provides enough fae. Om excited to get this build going.

A couple things from my own humidification experiences:
First: dont neglect the airstone, or some other way of keeping the water circulating. And be prepared to clean or fully cycle the water periodically.
Reason? It *will* get gross and slimy if you don't. Bugs will get chopped through your fan, random shit in the air will get into it, etc. If the water is mostly still (which it will be if the only activity is the foggers), your foggers will fail fast and often.
Second: it's pretty easy to rerig a standard $5 light timer (the mechanical kind that has push-button notches in 30 minute increments) so that each notch is a couple minutes rather than 30. Search here (which is where I originally found the info) or YouTube. You have to pull it apart and remove one of the gears, but its pretty simple and will save you some $$

Tip 3: this or anything like it is *way* overkill for cubes. Just do monotubs, modified or unmodified. A greenhouse isnt going to significantly increase your yields (if at all).

Thanks for much for the advice, we are doing gourmets. I am however looking at doing a monotub of reishi.

Then that's exactly the sort of setup to go for.
I'd also recommend adding an exhaust fan, but it has to be something that can stand humidity and spores. (Bilge fans are what was recommended to me, but I havent started my greenhouse build yet, which is going to be an *amazing* upgrade over the tent I used to use)
Theres a ton of great info on greenhouse builds over in the gourmet forum. This one is for psychedelics.
