UK Liberty Caps Hunt 2007 *pics**updated*

Been 4 years since my last (and only other) P. Semilanceata hunt log here, so thought I'd share some of my latest trek with you guys.
Sat at home last week and realised that soon conditions for a Psilocybe Semilanceata hunt were as perfect as they could get. I waited for a rainy day with the intention of going on a hunt the following morning. - It's not as simple as going for a stroll in the nearest field like some of you guys As you'll soon see.
The nearest place to gather shrooms to my home used to be a 5 minute walk until some developer built mingin' houses on it. What a waste of such a valuable resource. Now its a good 1/2 hour drive, and another 1/2 hour of walking vertically - that's right - up a frickin' mountain!
Wednesday came and it pissed down with rain, so Thursday was the day!
So after a 30min drive I got to the base of the mountain at about 7am - this was the view - I say again: this was from the base of the mountain:

Started the trek, not being used to this altitude, and air quality - my lungs were already burning. Anyway, got to the point where I had to go 'off-road'. You can just see a post where I leave the path and into the bush.

5 minutes later came across this - hadn't seen it previous years, sounds bad! "Ah, Sod it" I cracked on!
Luckily, the path was a just a bit slippy - no falling rocks or anything else equally dramatic.
Saw this tree though, had to photo it as it was striking against the sky, think it's a Silver Birch - hopefully someone can confirm:

Anyway, this is a post about a mushroom hunt so on with the pics! Getting to the mountain top proper I had found a few singles here and there, but this was my first group:

Few yards later:

Progress was sporadic for the next hour or so, and was starting to blow a gale and being on top of a mountain - should have brought my earmuffs - I suffer terrible with earache you know?
Found this pair of beauties which upped my morale and kept me keen for a while longer:

For those unfamiliar with Libs, these were monsters so took another pic with a UK 10p piece for size comparison:

Same Libs in-hand:

Morning was cracking on, and more people were turning up - saw over 20 other gatherers on the day - first amongst them were the Chavs:

Wrapping up for the first part of this post, here's what I think is a Waxcap (Pink)? Sure one of the pro's could confirm?:

Update: I left these where they were, being as they're growing outta poo.

Here's an interesting pic, it's quite hard to make out because of the tiny size, but it's a lib before the cap pops:

Lot's of these scattered everywhere, not much more details other than they were orange, and ideas?

mmm, nice, another lovely patch of goodness:

How beautiful is this?

By now, I was quite tired, plus the wind was getting up and being on top of a mountain you tend to feel it (I'm a pussy I know). Here's the view right from the top:

Another one taken on the way down, the water you can see is the Severn Estuary:

And finally, I saw this little fella I called him Brian:

Hope you enjoyed.
The image quality may be a bit dodgy on some of the pics, had to compress them somewhat to be allowed to upload.

Very nice! I've always wanted to go out hunting but I don't live in an area that's too permitting. Do you live in the US or out of country? I like the scenery a lot, very beautiful and green. I'd like to find a nice location for a future move that would be convenient for mushroom hunting, but not solely that purpose.
So how much did the, assuming 3-4 of you, manage to pick up out there?

Went on my own, the guys in the pic were just other gatherers - saw about 20 others during my 3 hours - there was even a camp with a couple festival types (read: hippies) who appeared to have taken up temporary residence for the autumn! On a windswept mountain for Christ's sake!
I live in the UK and these were gathered in South Wales. I gathered 90 grams wet (pic to come) in 3 hours on the mountain, before things dried up and started getting crowded. Surprised that the amount is consistent with 100 grams wet I gathered in my other hunt log.

the UK libs seem to be significantly different than those here in newfoundland, canada. much thicker stems, and what seems to be a thicker pellicle. yours are much prettier lookin.
nice pics!

Hate to say it garth, sorry, Jackal, but I believe I know where that mountain is. If so, it is the smallest mountain in the world!
I've been travelling 200miles to a place just outside cardiff for 7 years for absolutely monstrous picking. Still, Have some more pics
This next picture, does anyone have any idea what the lighter gills are? I threw them away anyhow, but there were loads of them and I believe they may be sterile libs
 Friendly mushrooms!

another half arsed id req. no prizes for spotting libs on the right!

Lovely looking Liberty Caps mate, thats definitely a worthy 200mile trip! How many times do you make that trip every season?
Does the farmer know what your doing, i think thats him from that pic?

Wouldn't it be nice, just once, to find a mushroom with a name you could pronounce! wiki doesn't even have a nickname for psathyrellas and doesn't note their blatant similarity to libs.
Thanks for a swift ID, and yes, they are great pics .
This year I only made the journey once, and stayed there for three days. the farmer and his dog knew I was there.
Was it a Marvellous season everywhere, or was it just me?
I found another hundred or so, on friday(21st november) in TWO square metres only half a mile away from my house, And I'm waiting on an ID for some mushies I found today that looked like cyans
