If a band only gets $0.69 off a sold CD.. Current CD prices are utter theft.
A band could make the same money on a CD that costs the consumer $2.50

Agreed, it is a total ripoff.

I'd say more against the artist. After all, it's them who have made the music.

You buy a CD so the band get a buck for it.
If they get 70 cents off a CD that costs twenty or thirty times as much, and we all know a CD can be made for under $0.75 then WHAT THE FUCK?
Bands should market their music online and supply CD's with cool extras which you order online. $2.50 plus p&p is entirely feasible.

Look at Radiohead's little experiment...giving out their album online for whatever price you feel like.
Last I heard, they had over 1.2 sales of the record and the price payed averaged $8. That's $9.6 million dollars they have of profit. They didn't go with a record label, either, so that is potentially 100% theirs. I don't know what studio time costs these days (I think Radiohead have their own) but even if we say it was a million (WAY over, I think) that's still $8.6 million.
