Sounds like it could be Psilocybe pelliculosa. The habitats match up and all that good stuff.
Did it look like these?

I was going to say silvatica...have you already counted these out?

Erm... If anyone had the monograph, my money would be on MJ Shroomer. Workman may have it too. Possibly LizardKing.... but I don't have it

I don't have a copy of Guzman's monograph (unfortunately), but here's something else you should check (if you haven't already). Is the cap cuticle filamentous or cellular? If cellular, then you probably have a Psathyrella and it definitely isn't a Psilocybe or Stropharia.

P. pelliculosa and P. silvatica do not appear until late October and Early November and grow until the frost and freeze overtake the groun d for more than two to three days.
mj ANd they are most common in clearcuts where alder is growing fresh.
mj
Me thinks maybe you have a species of psathryella

Looks like a Psathyrella to me, or possibly a Mycena. But I am pretty sure it is the former.

It's worth noting that not all Psathyrellas are thin fleshed and fragile. The reason I brought up the cuticle type previously was because I got caught being sure a mushroom I found in some wood chip mulch was a Stropharia (similar to, but not S. coronilla). When a friend with access to some monographs checked them out (with a microscope), she came back and informed me that they were Psathyrellas, although she didn't key them to species. They were not at all like the usual Psathyrella candolleana.
