What's the oldest memory you have, the one that dates back furthest in time?

I was in the late stages of a medium dose mushroom trip when I tried to go back in time as far as I could.

Suddenly, behind my closed eyelids, a scene emerged with particular lucidity.

I was sitting in the baby bath, a light blue plastic tub about two foot long, and I was sitting with my legs outstretched and they didn't touch the other side. The water was warm and whitish from the brand of baby soap my mother used to use and the smell of it filled my nostrils. Everything towards the edge of the tub was blurry, but I saw what I now recognise as the old kitchen of the house I grew up in, including things long forgotten. I was totally at peace.
Then I popped out of it.

Wow. I must've been a year old at the very most. I researched it and indeed the visual field of babies starts to blur after 1-2 feet or so, making it all the more realistic.

Damn, that was wonderful!

I have flashes of playing games in daycare. Mostly short and random flashes that i can only assume are my actual memories.

Kindergarten: I remember reading a number chart (All whole #'s from 1-100) And this nerdy lookin girl complimented me: "You're pretty smart" I said to her "Not really, I'm just reading from the chart"

Also, I remember the kindergarten teacher gave us magnifying glasses to look at newspaper photos. She then asked us what the photos were made of, and answers went around the circle: Paper? Ink? Colors?

I said the correct answer, by saying "little dots"
Now I call them pixels.

When I think back to my toddler-hood it's too hard to put a time stamp on each memory, but I can remember living in our old apartment when I was maybe 3 or less. I used to sit at the top of the stairs waiting for my dad to come through the door after work. I used to tell time by TV shows. He'd come home right after the last showing of Sesame Street came on. The memory only consists of a few images but my parents were blown away that I could remember that.

I can vividly remember falling on my head and needing to get stitches, when I was just over 3 years old. I remember being on my trike in the back yard, and having my older friend Jeff run into the back of me (he was on him 2-wheeler). I remember the paved step coming up to meet my head. I remember blood, all over the kitchen floor while I sat in my mothers arms waiting to go to the hospital. I remember feeling fine as we pulled out of the driveway, then intense curiosity as the doctors stitched me up (a FREEZING you say???). Walking out of the ER trying to tell my parents how exciting it all was is the last thing I can remember from that incident.

trendal its weird i have weird memorys all throughout my life, whenever i think about accidents that happened to me i have "blackouts" in my memory.

like i remember being stitched up like you were...but thats it...next thing i remember is back home. (5 years old)

another time i ended up in the hospital same thing happened (14 years old)

its almost like i died during these events, but awoke with a second chance, or alternate reality

edit: another time i remember running up to my brother hitting him over the head with something as hard as i could and boom blackout...so wierd.

I have memories of memories, I'm pretty certain what gets played in my minds eye is not the original. I was 2 and jumping along a row of stones outside the house I used to live in.

I've got many memories from my days in creche. I must've been 2 or 3 years old then. I remember not wanting to eat the milksoup we were fed too many times. It was nasty. Then I remember crying when someone else had pooped during midday nap. Also running around with another child with whom I had the same name laughing, doing all kinds of stupidities and pissing our teacher off. There are just so many more. I've got quite good memory for remembering random stuff I really don't need. I get a lot of synchronicity thanks to it too.

for me the oldest memory I have is from me being like 5 years old
me,my sister, and mother were downtown watching the pope John Paul II riding down the street in a glass covered box as he waved and smiled
This was back in the 80's when he came to Columbia SC

I also remember when that cocksucking hurricane hugo hit us in 89'
I was so fucking scarred all I remember doing that night was crying and hiding in a dark ass closet thinking were going to die
man you guys should have seen out neighborhood ..Columbia got tore up that awful day

other then those two things most of it is a blur ... *takes another hit from teh bubbler*

Now I think about it one time I was four years old and I was in the bathroom with my mom she was doing her hair and she sat the curling iron down and I pulled the cord and it fell on me burning my face, neck, chest, and arm ...nothing to bad or else I'd be one ugly mofo' ..thats probably the oldest memory I can think of
It's pretty good when you can remember being that young some people claim they remember being taught to talk ..I can't go back that far

My earliest memory was from age 3 or 4. It was when I still lived in CT before I moved to SC when I was 5. We used to live across the street from a very small farm. The people that lived on the farm had two very mean dogs. I remember my sister and I in the driveway playing and all of a sudden those two dogs came tearing across the street after us. I remember we made it into the house just in time. And thats all I can remember from that particular event.

My memories only go back as far as this house. I remember lots of things while living there, this one just stands out I guess.

I was really young, still in a crib, because I remember something about getting out, but the most I remember is seeing my brothers and dad sitting at the downstairs tables after I had crawled down the stairs eating hot dogs sliced in half on bread and those cheese dorritos, and my oldest brother looking over going "he got outa the crib again."

i can still see it through my little kid eyes and some impossibly tall monster, like having a building walking around potentially coming after you.

my first memory is my first nightmare i had when i was 4

i was in kindergarden and i walk into a mirror and the dream flips upside down as i walk through the mirror and now everything in my kindergarden class is upside down

actually i have a memory that's a little farther back, my first day at kindergarden and this kid crawls up to another kid and sniffs his butt, and then he crawls up to me and he's like "his butt is smelly!"

i dont understand how i remember it, but i do. when i was 2 my parents were watching my uncles doberman&puppies while he was out of town on business, remember those wooden square, circle, triangle toys that you hammer the shapes in place with a wodden hammer? well i guess i hit one of the puppies with the hammer and she latched onto me, shook me like a ragdoll and threw me into the corner. blood everywhere, all i could see was red. her top teeth dug in right on my scalp line and her bottom canine caught my eye, luckily it just missed my eyeball. i now have a lifelong scar on my eyelid and my scalp line.

I remember being 2 years old, and this was at my first house, I have this memory of riding my tricycle around the street and my mother telling me to be careful on the road. Doing dumb shit in my kitchen at my second house. Always getting yelled at by my dad for doing dumb shit in my kitchen. Oh, and my sister scaring the absolute living SHIT out of me with this crazy mask she made in elementary school.

I used to kill small creatures when I was a kid too, but it was mostly out of curiosity. It's not like I got a high off of doing it, but just seeing the guts was so damn interesting to me.

Thinking back though I really feel bad and if I could do it over I'd take them all back.

2 years old, I remember getting a bowl of beef stew in a chair, I rolled back a little to far and it dumped into my diper and let out a scream. My mother came and got me, took me to the tub and ran cold water over my package.

Or I was out on the front porch picking on helpless insects when a wasp landed on the railing and I quietly reached out and picked it up and the bastard stung me on the thumb and I let out a series of screams and my mums came to the rescue again.

When I was about 3 years old, give or take 1/2 a year, I remember I was walking out of the back of a house (I'm almost positve it was my babysiters house) and i put my fingers through the door for some odd reason which i can't remember, and someone slammed the door......RIGHT ON MY LITTLE AS FINGERS!!and the whole top of my right hand was in agony, and it later turned blue. man...what a wake up call

Between age 2 and 3 a girl gave me some paint thinner and told me it was water. I drank it. I remember the little cup with the clear liquid, I remember throwing up what seemed like my whole insides in my bathroom, I remember them pumping my stomach and I remember being in an oxygen tent.

It really sucks to have your first memory be so nasty but there you go.

Can no one remember how pissed you were when you were first kicked out of the push chair ?
Maybe i'm a lazy fuck...

My first memories are almost photographic, they're from when i was 2 and i first moved into this house.
I have a 'cliiick' image of the cupboard under the stairs, and a vague memory of the rough/plain walls of the kitchen.

I can't remember the house i lived in before here at all..

When I was four I bit off my own tongue. Didn't feel any pain, I was just morbidly curious about it being all detached.

My mom ran around screaming like a chicken with its head cut off. Then she drove me to a hospital, and there weren't any doctors there because we lived in Salt Lake and it was pioneer day (mormon holiday). They finally pulled one out of some parade he was in and I had my first taste of nitrous.

Seven stitches. I was SOOO proud of myself. My tongue looked like some nasty diseased hamburger. I didn't come up with that one, that's what an adult actually told me. An adult told me this because everywhere I went with my mom, I would find the closest adult and exclaim "LOOK WHAT I DID TO MY TONGUE!!!!" and then stick it out at them. Except it sounded more like "BOT BAH BOT BAH MAH MUNG!"

Anyway, everyone got the picture. For the next week all I did was eat milkshakes and stare open jawed into the mirror and poke around with the stitches. I even did this in public, it was just that fascinating. For some reason my mom thought this was really funny, after she stopped screaming MY BABY!!! SHE JUST LEARNED HOW TO TALK!!!!!

Ever since then I've had a fascination with surgery. Especially when it involves me. And i always like to see the little things they take out when they're done.

I went through life thinking that I was the only person this had happened to. Then when I was nineteen I was working as a burrito slave and there weren't any people that wanted burritos, so I just sort of randomly brought it up to my co-burrito slave, AND THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED TO HIM. Incidentally, his uncle had to have his penis restitched to his body at a young age due to a bicycle accident involving spokes and a pair of unsafe shorts. Maybe this runs in families.....

This little red plane that hung from the ceiling of my room when I was about 4 or 5.

Or maybe playing video games at this persons house that I barely remember... It seems more like a dream now.

Laying in my crib, staring at the wall. My crib was the same color as the wall.

That's...about it.
