humidity problem

Hey guys, SWIM haa a bit of a question about humidity. SWIM have been searching around for different tips, and what not. Basically swims container is a normal one your'd get from walmart, (64 quart it says), he has it close to half filled with damp perlite (~5 inches deep). At this point my humidity was rather low, so he bought a cool mist humidifier and made a tube redirect into my FC. he then started misting the sides, as well as putting a cup of water in the corner (he know this is ill advised, but he just wanted to see if the cup of water would raise the humidity). However, after all that done my digi-humidity scales reads 87%, and my analog one reads 90%... he has never seen his digi scale above 87, nor his analog one above 90... (his fruiting chamber does not have any holes in it, he originally had it in another chamber with holes, but the humidity was still low, so he tried it in this one, but still have a humidity problem)
any suggestions?... he am gonna try a salt water calibration when he get home tonight. thanks

your gauges must be incorrect

Id say that its your hydrometers. The damp perlite alone should be plenty to raise the humidity to the high 90.

If your perlite was rinsed and then well drained, your humidity is in the upper 90's, but you do need some holes in the tub. Boycott wal mart. All they sell is made in china crap anyway. Get an analog hygrometer from a cigar shop and calibrate it NOT with salt, but rather by wrapping in a damp towel for an hour, then unwrap and adjust so it reads 99%. RR

swim did the wrapping it in a damp towel for an hour, and his analog one still read around 90%, so he adjusted the coil, so it would read 100% at this point... he is still gonna look for a better hygrometer, but hopefully this gets me by till then...
thanks again for all the tips

yea, SWIM just wrapped my digital one in a damp cloth for an hour, and it still read 87%, so he is definitely convinced he just happened to get two shotty hygrometers... thanks again for all the help
