outside? schweeeeeet......
    #754228 - 07/17/02 05:07 PM (21 years, 8 months ago)

Ok, my cat has been a busy beaver, so to speak....

A couple of Tazzie casings gave up the good fight and were ready for the recycle bin. The little furball decided to toss ??em outside to see what would happen. He dug a hole about a foot deep (nice to have claws ) and put some composted cow poop/straw in the bottom. Added the spent casings and a couple of pints of colonized millet for grins and giggles.

So, here?s a pic of his setup:

On top of the casings he put some more manure/straw compost, and watered liberally (it was pretty wet)....

Suddenly (ok, within the week ), there were strange growths...

And a couple of days later, he asked one of his humans to hold thease beauties...

Yes, he was lazy and let ?em go a little too long. First flush yielded almost 600g. Rumour has it that these are quite tasty

He added a little more compost to cover the spots where he harvested, and lo! More pins are making an appearance.

Seems that the most important part is keeping the poop wet. Who?d have ever thunk that?d be the most important part of my cat?s day?

What do you guys think so far?

I think that is pretty cool, and my cat said that if he were allowed outside, he would try the same thing. But he's not...

Nope, so far all he's had to do is keep it moist. The plastic helps a lot, but he's gotta water it, at least a little, almost every day.

But he's not sure how many flushes will appear without adding additional poop. Probably he'll add some more in a couple of weeks

Damn I'm jealous. My outdoor bed didn't survive this year. We've had a record drought and some pretty hefty water restrictions. Even the sprinkler couldn't keep it watered enough. Oh, well. Congrats on your harvest. Like someone above said, outdoors, like popeyes chicken, is the shiznit.

Nope, the manure/straw compost was used directly from the pile (no treatment at all, other than wetting).....

The shit-pile kicked out another 150g today

That damn cat! He's at it again!

He visited the local cow-poop factory (aka the local farm) and scrounged a big bag of dried plops. After he mixed them with the patch, he added a couple quarts of Eq spawn (millet) and covered with a thin layer of composted manure from the garden center.

Seems like it's a go. There are pins coming up already (at about 10 days). Temps are in the range of 75-80F daytime and 55-65F night. Pics tomorrow.....

What do you think? Should I get another cat?
