Unless your room has a relative humidity in the high 90's with good air movement I'd say yes.

I feel like they may pull through since the casing layer provides a lot of moisture
I plan on just taking out the old ones when I have new ones prepped and seeing what happens to the semi spent ones, cant really lose anything

Per Paul Stamets, (The Mushroom Cultivator) The casing layer has 4 basic functions.
1. To protect the colonized substrate from drying out Exposed mycelium in unprotected and tends to dehydrate.
2. To provide a humid microclimate for primordia formation and development. The casing is a layer of material in which the mushroom myucelium can develop an extensive, healthy network. The mycelium within the casing zone becomes a platform that supports formation of primordia and their consequent growth into mushrooms.
3. To provide a water reservoir for the maturing mushroom. The enlargement of pinhead into a fully mature mushroom is strongly influenced by available water, without which a mushroom remains small and stunted.
4. To support the growth of fructification enhancing microorganisms. Many ecological factors influence the formation of mushroom primordia. One of these factors is the action of selected groups of microorgansisms present in the casing.
Bottom line is that I'm sure that you can grow mushrooms without a casing layer in a Fruiting chamber, but the fruits you will get, if any, will not yield it's full potential.

He did mention a (Fruiting Chamber). I don't think he means fruiting in his room.

wait but the question was fruiting with a casing layer with out a FC, not no casing layer in FC
other than that though thanks for sharing the good info man

Yeah but wouldn't the casing layer provide all of the moisture needed, as long as I keep it moist.

I thought the Q was do you need to use a casing layer in your FC........which as far as RR said, it was...no difference between casing and directly going to fruiting. I cant find that post though but it was relatively recent

My point was that unless his room has the same characteristics as a FC then he needs to make one or he'll be disappointed when he comes home and his tray is dried out.

LOL, I thought he meant if you needed to put a casing LAYER on a tray that was already in a fruiting chamber.. My bad. You are very right Cbiegel!
