I think if you're a logical person, you realize there's no way there's a single God of any kind. I believe in science.

I think "gods" are all made up by man. Way back when we asked the question "Why are we here?" We had to come up with some kind of answer, so we came up with the higher being of god. Then, as far as christians go, someone decided to write a book trying to demonstrate all the basic morals everyone should share, later named the bible. Other religions differ, but are all the same basic idea... man looking for some higher power they can look to and think that theres more to life than living, having kids, and dying.

I believe in God.
If I'm wrong, it didn't hurt anything to live my life believing. If I'm right, then I get to go to Heaven.

Even if there was a god...why would I spend my time licking his/her ass?
Okay, you created me - thanks.
I don't have to live my life by another's set of rules. That doesn't mean I'm a killer, I just live by what I think is okay.
and I agree with shroomiegirl. Imagine thousands of years ago, people didn't have much science - they thought everything was done by something else, it was the only explanation. And if for example someone started having auditory hallucinations about a god talking to him/her, that person would probably believe it. They then might think they're a messenger or whatever. The point is, people didn't know as much as we do yet religion continues...
The main reason I think it continues is because people are brought up with religion at such a young age. I went to a Christian school and almost felt Christian but in 'bible class', the teacher could never answer many of the questions I had. I was left to think on my own - changing my views on life and a creator...
I wonder what society would be like if we were not told how to think, just left to answer our own questions rather than a book or another person to answer it for us...

i know that if god exists it would not give a shit about puny humans believeing in it. it's an ultimate form of existance. ants don't believe in humans, they don't know humans exist before someone steps into their little ant hill.

I believe in this God "“And God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth.’ And God saw every thing that He had made and behold it was very good.” (Gen. 1:29,31)" aka according to christianity pot is legal.

I believe in god. It just takes less faith for me to believe in a god creating things than it happening by accident. This may be due to the fact that I had it crammed down my throat for 12 years in christian school but whatever. Either way god or not I'm not going to change the way I act. I'm still going to do drugs and listen to "satanic" music.
I'm thinkin of goin for the life of sin followed by the miracle death bed turnaround just in case there is a heaven haha.

yeah god is fo realz d00d.
i have been touched by god many times, without this divine power i would be dead by now. weather or not the power was always in me and surfaced at the right time, or was sent in from elsewhere (unlikely) is irrelevant because it exists, and that is also a whole other argument. I believe that god is really just a name for something we hold inside of us.

How can God be real? If he wants everyone to have Faith and believe in him... Why doesn't he just reveal himself? Because if he were to just reveal himself, SO many people would start believing in him and reading the Bible...
Why does he ostracize us from himself? his supposed 'children'? And ultimately let the non-believers die in the flames of Hell?

I major in chemistry, and the more I learn about this thing we call the universe. Its blatantly obvious that this universe is not atoms blindly colliding, or a chance occurrence. Idk about god but I do know there is defiantly an intelligent force that has created and governs things. I believe that in a constantly evolving universe that creator is constantly evolving and as well as all the laws that govern this thing we call the universe.
I think a great example of this is the fact that, if 1 electron of 1 atom were to collide with its nucleus, it would destroy our planet. If you believe this universe is just a happenstance, or random occurance, how in the 4 billion years our planet has been around hasn't this happened by complete chance or randomness?

Why do you assume that when some speaks of "a god" they are automatically referring to the god of christianity?
Ever stopped to think that perhaps there is a god that doesn't give two shits if you worship "him" or not? One that wouldn't even bother to check and see if you are?
I'm not sure if I believe in an actual GOD, but there have been times in my life when I have had some very convincing experiences. I do, however, believe that there is more to life than working, eating, breeding, and dying.

Personally I don't believe in a god. With the amount of existing matter and the various reactions that can occur between various quantities of existing matter its hard for me to believe that one entity is governing/creating it all. One thing that does boggle my mind is how matter was created in the first place, but without the threat of a god I don't have to distract myself from maintaining my life by attempting to understand creation.
Good stuff.

True. You never know, you can't be 100% sure there is no magical single being who created everything. I'm only 90% sure there isn't a god. But I could be wrong.

No, he lives in your brain and makes you believe in delusions, i wouldn't say he's evil though.

Here is my take on this. I was raised a catholic and had the whole christianity thing rammed down my throat. I believe there is a God, I dont, however, think that christianity or buddhism or islam or any religion for that matter is the right way to go about it. But, Id like to ask a question; whats wrong with having faith? Faith, to some people is like a drug. It makes them feel good and it gives them something more than just go to work, eat, breed and die. I know nearly everyone here can relate to that.
I dont think its foolish to believe in a higher being. We are way way too advanced an animal to have just evolved into what we are without there being some help. There must have been a plan. Why is it that humans are the only ones to come this far? There isnt another living creature on earth that even comes near to the intelligence of a human.
I dont go to church anymore, I havnt in a few years. But I do pray. Ive built my own relationship with God. A relationship that doesnt require me forking over money, or telling my sins to another person, priest or not. God can hear me just fine, besides, he is omniscient. He already knows what ive done wrong. Can you tell, I have some beef with the christian church.
I feel that believing in God does give your life purpose. I cant imagine having to live my life feeling that when I die, thats it. Im not saying God is the reason I get up in the morning, but He sure makes my days a bit more meaningful.

Now I'm no expert so take this with a grain of salt.
Dying is just a cease in electrical activity in the brain. Brain cells die off quickly without oxygen but if electrical impulses are added to the body then there's a chance that the brain will be kick started causing the lungs to take in air replenishing the oxygen to the brain. Because brain cells die off so quickly this external source of electricity must be added relatively close to the time the heart stopped so that the oxygen can get to the brain.
As for the "near death experiences" here is how I think those happen. The act of dying is traumatizing to say the least causing you to go into shock and your pupils dilate and the lack of oxygen in the brain gives you tunnel vision. Being that most "near death experiences" occur in hospitals and most hospitals have a white paint scheme one might see a very bright white tunnel before going unconscious. Once unconscious you're not dead yet, rather you go into a dream like state where memories and fantasies seem real and life-like. What these vivid/lucid dream-like memories could be is anything from life or, what you believe comes after life occurs and then you are either brought back or an important connection dies and you aren't revivable. This is where even some atheists might not like my views, but once you are dead your body still exists but you don't. Your soul isn't released cause the soul doesnt exist in the first place, life is truly energy, that energy being electricity. You wont be thrown into an existence of black nothingness, you will simply not exist, the only thing of yours that will remain is the effect you had on the world and people around you. Its hard to rap your mind around nonexistence but when it happens to you, you wont have to have an understanding of it.
-------------------- Customize your Shroomery experience! Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Im not discrediting evolution. But something had to have pushed it along. Honestly, I dont know what created God. Maybe He was created by chance.

I've often though that religions were formed to encourage a loving and peaceful way of life. I'm not saying all that is in the bible is a load of crap, but maybe the stories are metaphors or examples to live by, as opposed to pure fact.

to me, life is just a long waiting line to the inevitable Deathville.
god is infinite and all encompassing. all names we have created for god are futile for the power of the holy spirit resides in everything and is infinite. god(n)+god(n+1)+god(n+x)......= GOD = the holy spirit = in my opinion the spirit of the universe.
i do not refer to the christian god, but rather to all gods. to me they are all one.
does this seem crazy to anyone?
would you ever have expected these words from a christian?
cus i am.
