Nervous Hypochondriac

This is the second time this has happened in two weeks
First I get a little short of breath, (Im usually sitting in my chair doing work).
Then I start to feel sort of warm all over, which quickly turns into a DXM/Robo itch all over my hands, arms, and feet. My chest gets tight and I feel very uncomfortable.
any ideas on what the hell is wrong with me?

sounds like it indeed
first a physical signal: short of breath. Second: Your body reacts more extreme than usual and you panick.
if that's the case (also thinking that you might die or something) just concentrate on your breathing to calm you down, nothing can or will happen, even not fainting, it will pass.
if you're not sure these are panick attacks visit a doctor

how is your posture? do you sit with your back straight? Is your stomach protruding over your hips? if the way you are sitting is crushing your organs or squeezing your muscles it is more likely to will have trouble taking deep breathes

I dont disagree with the others, but i would see a doctor about that. I dont want to freak you out but tingling and chest pains could be a sign of a heart problem, more likely a panic attack but still, i would get it checked out.

anxiety. panic attacks are different.
or you could be dying!!!!
i used to get the same thing all the time, it happens more rarely now. everytime it happens i remmember that it will go away on its own, and that no matter how many times it happens i'll be okay. over time it lowered in intensity and frequency because i remind myself it will be okay.

OK... I'm as stressed out as your average college student. I have homework and tests to worry about. As well as a semi-uneasy living situation with a couple of roomies.
I did have a test the next day, and I was up late grading papers for a professor... I was slouched as I always am when I'm concetrating.
I have been aware of the fact that I don't breathe enough, and have been working on that for a while.
anxiety attacks are what I want to believe, but the heart thing isnt too far off base either. I've had a couple of physicians tell me that my heart had a small, nearly unoticable murmur, and that my body was indicative of a semi-non serious condition called Marfan's:
What is the Marfan syndrome?
The Marfan syndrome is a connective tissue disorder. Connective tissue provides substance and support to tendons, ligaments, blood vessel walls, cartilage, heart valves and many other structures. In the Marfan syndrome, the chemical makeup of the connective tissue isn't normal. As a result, many of these structures aren't as stiff as they should be.
The Marfan syndrome is inherited and affects many parts of the body. There's no single conclusive test for diagnosing it, but people who have it often have many similar traits. Besides perhaps having heart problems, people with the Marfan syndrome are often tall and thin. They also may have slender, tapering fingers, long arms and legs, curvature of the spine and eye problems. Sometimes the Marfan syndrome is so mild that few (if any) symptoms exist. In the most severe cases, which are rare, life-threatening problems may occur at any age.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure that I'm not gonna die of a heart attack anytime soon. Though from time to time I do experience a random chest pain that originates from my sternum, but doesnt everybody get those?
I'm swinging with panic attack, even though I dont understand how it could come about without me even thinking about stressful stuff.

if you're really in doubt if it's your heart or some form of anxiety it's probably a good idea to go to your home physician/doktor to get to know more about it. I hope, and think, it's 'just' a panick attack/anxiety. good luck
ps panick attacks can come 'out of nowhere', you don't have to be thinking about stressfull things at the moment. Just a physical signal like feeling just a little short of breath, or a irregularity in heartbeat can be enough(everyone has those, but some people are sensitive to feeling things in their body, and few of them react strongly to it)

1. Sit with your spine straight
2. Focus on your breathing. Slow.. DEEP.. natural.. rhythmic breathing. Breathe deep into the bottom of your lungs. You want your stomach to be expanding more than your chest. Count as you breath.. Like so.. Inhale (1-2-3-4) Exhale (1-2-3-4) pause1-2, repeat You can expand or reduce those number whatever is most comfortable to you. The key is to just breath steadily and deeply until your lungs are completely full.. then release it just as steadily and at the same rate you breathed it in.. not all at once.
3. Meditate. It helps. If you are just sitting there with your spine straight and focusing on your breathing, you are essentially meditating.
4. Eat more fruit and nuts. Drink more water
