In a continuing effort to abide by a modest budget, a pod was not purchased...Could the blue translucent rubbermaid bins w/ the blue opaque lids, as sold by Walmart, be used as fruiting chambers? Any advice is greatly appreciated. And the thing about blue x-mass lights can't be too serious can it?

go back to wallys and get 1 or 2 flexable neck table lights, there like 5 bucks a piece, 40 watts, that will do you, 12-12

IMO don't waste the money. 1 minute of light a day is more than enough.
Shrooms only need light to tell them where "up" is.

I was thinkin' about making a water-heated fruiting chamber w/ the two bins, jars, etc., and was wondering A. if this would work, and if so B. would enough light permeate both bins. One could get 12 natural light.

I have given cakes light just once as an experiment and they all grew up to where the light was the 1 time they seen it.

honestly u should just experiment, different things work for different peeps, myself, i do something like natural night in the day, and a table lamp from about 930 pm till 800 am

Well, first of all, a fruiting chamber doesn't need to be heated (unless the room temperature is below 71F).
Second, as I said above, you only need a breif moment of light per day or LESS.

oops! Im sure Tripmeister realised that primordia of psilocybe cubensis require light to form - no light no pins. Once they are fruiting however he's statement is correct.

I`ve just noticed by increasing my light to atleast 9 hours on the babies have started fruiting.
Maybe some other conditions came into it but I just reasently upped the light to see if it would take effect and it deffinatelly did.

Stamets recomends for promordia formation and cropping:
Light: Diffuse natural or exposure for 12-16 hours/day of grow-lux type fluorescent light high in blue spectra at the 480 nanometer wavelength.

..or they THINK they know better than a professional mycologist.
But what if someone qouted from Stamets and someone else didn't agree? Would that give a person the right to slander the qouter? Wouildn't the argument be better taken up with Stamets?
Also, I've never seen cubensis in it's natural state but how wonder how much light the mycellium recieves when it is underground or in the dung. I figure those pins start in complete darkness and recieve light only after they break the soil as young mushrooms.
