Hunt 10/21
    #7549211 - 10/22/07 09:37 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Pics from my hunt on Sunday. It was such a lovely day, just after the rain, not too cold...

A very nice couple of A. panchycolea aka Western Grisette. I got so excited when I saw the group of them because there were still some in the button stage with other mature specimens.

A group of (mostly) Golden Chanterelles

A hunky C. Cascadens (sp?)

My honey mushrooms

And some Angel Wings

Those people I know who've tried the various grisette species have not been very impressed. It's a matter of what you like to eat.

Since Amanitas include such dangerous species, you need to be 100% certain before you eat. Please be *very* cautious if you are considering eating them.

Happy mushrooming!

Ahh, I'm not even considering eating that Amanita.  Besides being pretty maggoty (yuck!)...  That family just has way too many poisonous members for me to risk it.  Plus my professor and the book said they were "meh" and that vaginata was much better.  But thanks for the good advise, it's a good rule everyone should know and FOLLOW!
...but...
I got enough Chantrelles and Fried Chickens (L. decastes)  to keep me satisfied till the next hunt

hello, great hunt i love that amanita pachycolea , all this amanitas are from the amaniptopsis group , are a type of amanitas that  don´t have ring, the volva is not weel form ,not a cup, sometimes they loose it with age, have a striate marging, all the species of amanitopsis are edible , vaginata, pachycolea, fulva and more , all are edible,  i have try then both i prefert vaginata, and fulva more  the fulva taste  almost exactly as amanita caesaria,:crazy2: one of the  most delicius  mushrooms ,
you have great  chanterelle  there
what are angel wings ?, pleurotus, that why i always use  latin names they are universal and comond names are funny but change from place to place.. have a good day
