dorment cactus for the winter..

i dont understand how to do this.. I dont want my cacti to stretch!!
I dont water them all winter and keep them in COMPLETE darkness? Wont this kill my babies?

no, first, what type of cactus?

If it is san pedro, it is simple, just leave them outside for most of the winter. Really, just try and keep them above 30F, so they dont freeze. I leave mine outside until it drops below 30-35 degrees, then put them in the garage.

Also, and dont water them unless they shrivel, if so, give them just enough to stop it

im talking about lophophora williamsii and blue myrtle.. outside? it gets up to -30 celcius here...

Keep them cool and dry. Light levels are unimportant.

I keep my cactus around 50 deg f and dry i have a large walk in cabinet.As long as they are dry a cool they need no light.I keep them with no light for months

light is the LEAST most important factor when it comes to dormancy, low temps and lack of water are the things that induce dormancy in cacti... it doesnt matter if they are in the dark or light.
