I can't believe Spirit and Opportunity are still rolling around Mars

They have been there for like two years and still taking amazing pictures:

We need some more solar powered robots running around mars, i think.

Dude, I was just looking at that same shot this morning.
After seeing that and all the other fantastic, cosmic images Hubble and the other space observatories capture, it really baffles me when I hear of people who oppose the space program.

Damn, your right. My mistake.

But generally anything government funded is widely renown by politicians and then generally only comes back with wasted money and a half ass piece of shit. Missile defense, the Bradley fighting vehicle, medicare expansions, any foreign aid program, Iraq, ect.

Why is the space program so effective in recent years in giving us vast amount of information and progress?

The space program is mired in bureaucracy too though.
But they have had some great successes just the same.

Even the technicians and the people who built these things are amazed. They figured they would work for 90 days, TOPS.

Nobody is more suprised than them.

NASA just launched another lander, the "Phoenix" a few months ago, and I saw today that its equipment checks had come back okay. It'll land sometime in May on the polar caps to check for water.

Great pictures!

I don't think NASA is very effective in recent years, but there are some successes.

Here is a animation of the journey to Mars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_9BYSDtwRc
