mail forwarding does not mean using a PO box. a mail forwarding service is a private company who you have your stuff sent to and then they pass it on to you.
presumably, they would not match one of their address codes to your name without being presented with a court order.
a law enforcement agency could simply watch ralphster's outgoing packages and see who they're going to. they couldn't get a warrant with that, but they could put you under surveillance, and you don't want that.
if you used a mail forwarding service, they would have no way of knowing that you ordered from ralphsters unless they asked the forwarding service and the forwarding service told them. they would almost certainly be unable to get a court order demanding the information.
so yeah, they do provide protection and i'd suggest you use them.

My name needs to be on the transaction for the package to reach me.
yes, but wouldn't you like it if someone other than a spore company was the one putting your name on it and placing it in their outgoing mail with their return address stamped on it?
when it leaves ralph's, it can just say:
ACME Mail Forwarding 245 Anonymous Way Shady, PA 16845 Box 53645
and you have an account with ACME mail forwarding where they've assigned you that box. when they get something with that address on it, they stick it in another package with your actual name and address and send it on its way.
no one other than you and ACME mail forwarding would be able to tell who the box sent to:
ACME Mail Forwarding 245 Anonymous Way Shady, PA 16845 Box 53645
was actually going to, nor would anyone know where the box on it's way to
ZeeMox's real name ZeeMox's Real Address
really originated.
if your mail forwarder is worth a damn, they won't match your box to your name without a court order. such a court order would be impossible to get because there is zero evidence of illegal activity.

You've convinced me it's a good idea, but it seems pretty expensive. It seems like you could do the same thing (not putting your name on it) with any PO-box-type service.
it's not very expensive, and it's absolutely worth it.
what do you mean any PO box type service?
Even if someone were to get it in their head that I should be watched, I can't see them finding anything.
do you really think it's a good idea to be growing mushrooms while the authorities have a good idea that you're doing it and are watching and waiting for you to slip up?
If they can't get a court order like the aforementioned, then could they get a search warrant?
not without more evidence, no. again, do you really want to advertise to anyone who cares to look at ralphster's outgoing mail that you are probably growing mushrooms while you are growing them?
