Coincidence

This past little while I've been thinking about things I want to do in my life, and one of the main one's I came up with just throwing myself into the wild with supplies, and live in it for a few years. This is after I've camped a fair bit and gotten my grips on how to survive in the wilderness that is. About a weeks after I had decided I want to do this at one point in my life, I found about the soon to be out movie Into the Wild, and from what I take from the preview it's fairly well the same idea. Now this may not be a stupidly obvious coincidence but it still caught my attention.
Come Saturday night, I'm hanging out with a friend I haven't seen in a few months, during conversation we come along the topic of Sati, an old but still practiced live cremation of an Indian widow when the husband dies (they place a stone on her chest, and cremate her alive with her husbands body), and we talk about it for a few minutes. Shortly after on Monday I'm having to sit through class presentations on the topic of injustice, and someone does a large presentation on Sati. Coincidence?
It's these little coincidences that make me wonder if maybe the universe and it's workings is not a machine that has been set in motion, but is being altered in the now.

So I hear, and frankly I'd rather read the book than see the movie, books tend to be better.

instead of looking at it as a coincidence, how about compare us and other people and events from a chemistry standpoint...
You're a certain element that may have a greater affinity for another, BUT say ANOTHER element comes by, and breaks the bond you once had.
And I think it's coincidence that we run into these events. Then again, who knows?

The compulsion to make cynical comments were they aren't welcome is a sign of a weak mind.

A little closer than next to each other.... At least in engineering terms, a coincidence means that two points lie at the same coordinates, at the same time.... But, I am just being picky here....

Is it not cynical to believe in coincidence?

Hmmmn, maybe you're right, I should have said "captious comments".
Coincidences exist whether we believe in them or not.
We are actually talking about Synchronicity which is an "explanatory principle" or "meaningful coincidence" according to Jung. Spotting and deciphering synchronicities is not a "crutch for weak minded people". In fact it is just the opposite...

Coincidence is the all too easy universal explination of synchroncities which voids occurences of their existential properties.
