An eight year old spore print has made it! I made a syringe and whent to work on a PF tek jar, low and behold, it's alive. alive I say. Moral, just do it, and see what happens.

That kinda attitude is why the world has over-population problems.

Oh come on, what the heck. Do you not think people want to know of viability of their spore prints? This is science, mycology, not politics, take your beef elsewhere.

Chill out people. People are just being sarcastic. Congrats on the virility of your 8 year old print. I think this goes to show, as you so eloquently pointed out, when in doubt try anyways.

spores > seeds

I know they're different but some endospores can go through periods of high heat, freezing and blah blah blah

Cubensis does not produce endospores... spores yes, endospores no

It was an old print from Homestead. Print on paper, folded, placed in a wax envelope kept in a drawer of my old wood desk.

Mold makes mycelium too. Hopefully, it's mushroom mycelium, but the chances are very low. After five years, less than one spore in a million will be able to germinate. The ratio is lower if the print was taken on typing paper.

Hey Roger,
You were right. Seems the 8yr old print was just a mess of mold. live and learn. You are now known as Mr. RR to me, you have gained my respect. I follow your posts closely, and have learned alot.
Thank you,

uhm, i believe spores have been found to be viable after a few thousand years.

while im sure it isn't normal, i certainly wouldn't write it off as impossible.

I'm just curious what all manner of fauna would sprout up if somewhere like, say, Antarctica thawed out.
