Help with ID of Lepiotaceae in Florida
    #7546994 - 10/22/07 01:50 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I wrote up a post on Saturday and I thought I posted it, but maybe I didn't. Anyway, I tried to identify this odd-looking mushroom but had trouble. I suspect its in the Lepiotaceae because of a lack of evidence for a universal veil. When I found it, the gills were completely covered by the veil, in spite of its large size.

I found it growing nearby an oak tree in some planted ground cover - Chlorophyllum molybdites had been growing nearby previously.

Pileus: brownish red, pellicle rubbing off easily, "oozing" warts found on surface when first found, no longer present, about 8 cm diameter, Flresh off-white, brusing yellow-brown in some areas

Gills: Very "shredded" looking, as if munched on by insects, but not, pale beige in color, FREE,

Veil cottony, coffee-brown in color, remaining on margin

Stipe: LONG, ~13-15 cm long, slightly widened at base, white above veil (spores?), slightly scurfy below veil and darker, becoming white again at base, bruising brownish in some areas.

ODOR STRONGLY NUTTY WITH OVERTONES OF A SHARP URINE-LIKE SMELL

SPORE PRINT CREAMY

Here are some pictures. Sorry about the bluriness and lighting:

Thanks

I'd like to help ya out. I think you're on the right track, but this genus has gone through a lot of changes, and there's a lot of family members.
It comes down to finding documentation, and it gets  :adam1975:
So much to the point that with Amanita and pretty much Lepiota, I find so many different kinds, they're just not identifiable.
