Hey guys, found a few cyans today in SF. There were tons of pins just waiting for rain. Today the difficulty was finding the right habitat with enough moisture to harbor cyans. My finds were limited to areas exposed to sprinkler systems. Looks like rain Friday and Saturday!!!

picked these today in the hot sun of Monterey. before i left for the Sharks game in San Jose. Friscosas

wavy cap looks like a cyan doesn't it? this patch has been all friscosas and now a few cyans pop up, you'd think it would be the other way around. you be the judge.
they're all practically dry, been under a fan since 2.

cubensis dont grow wild in california, even introduced patches probably wouldnt be fruiting right now with the current temps.
your mushrooms could either be some sort of stropharia or even psathyrella, but they arent cubensis and they arent anything active. why the mix of poo and woodchips? two completely different substrates... i dont even think cubensis will grow on rabbit shit... unless its rogerrabbits shit of course.
this thread is also for FINDS that are CONFIRMED, and your asking for an ID basically.
please make a separate thread if u want to learn exactly what those are, as this is definitely not the thread for ID's.

and you also might want to do a little research, especially if u thought cubensis might pop up on your straw/rabbitpoo/woodchip mix...

Mountain View might be good when it starts raining better, but it's too dry in most places.. It's really only pockets that are moist and damp that are any decent right now

a few from today..this is what I call the woke-up-the-next morning-in-a-back-ally-in-Tripoli-with-a-rag-doll-and-a-busted-lip variety (they split open). They don't look so hot, but they're just as good.
actually, alot of that is because of the weather...rain then dry wind, makes some strains split open like that and look like a clover..Some do it anyway
yeah I know what the red ones are, and the first photo isn't them either
also, for those that don't know, click on 'all sizes' on Flickr and you'll get the original size
also note, and this might be important...Note how these 'friscosas' have different colors ranging from the classic 'chestnut brown' of cyans to slightly shady 'grey'. I mean much lighter color than the young ones, as if many of them turn albino as they mature
this throws alot of people off, even experienced cyan pickers
and you can see it for yourself, it's the same patch, same mother plant, even to the point where there are hints of the original cyan mothership from a few years ago (note to Curecat...notice a couple of the young ones starting with the classic cyan shape)
you are seeing point blank..why experts like Stamets are having such a difficult time writing a consistent thesis on a > 'this possible' new species
no kidding

Goddamn guys. Things are looking good for this season!!
Interesting that the "Cyanofriscosas" seem to get started earlier than the the Cyans. Of course, there have been Cyan finds, but the Friscosas far out number them right now.
Aaaaneeewaaay, here is the harvest of a massive patch of Cyanofriscosas my friend stumbled upon!

I was also excited to finally chance upon a patch of Blue Ringers, Ps. stuntzii!! Not potent, but I always love finding new species. I almost passed them by, as they were near a large patch of Stropharia, and most of the caps hade faded to a tan yellow, but as soon as I spotted a couple young hygrophanous caps I immediately inspected them for faint blue partial veil remnants on the stipe. Most were pretty dried and beat up, but heres the collection.

auweia : those are some damn good pictures, and i agree! I have been picking cyans for about 8 years and I have never seen anything like your pictures of the caps with the split edges. I have seen the caps wave to hell and back but never split so violently like your 6th pic. It is undoubtedly in my mind that this is a new species or variation. I must admit i was skeptical at first.

the potentcy is up there with cyanescens. THis is one of the reasons people do not think that they are cyanofib's
