I personally think that we in the Bay Area are seeing changes in mycology that many can't explain properly
that's my opinion
I said it before and I will say it again. Global warming! Smog from china, the death of 2 polar bears, shrinking Arctic ice caps, growing Antarctic ice caps, 20% ethanol in the fuel, corn tortillas, beef prices, 9/11. They are all connected. Middle east oil!
best post EVER.
You just now seeing that one i didnt get much credit when i first posted it

Hey Auweia, that's the Pt. Reyes Fungus Fair that I was telling you about. And the mushroom hunt that brought in this new species was the Mycoblitz- a very cool event. Alan, Peter, and I were there (That's all the Shroomerites I think).
I plan on going to the Fair tomorrow. It should be cool. It's short, so there's time to hunt afterwards.

Another flush at the grass patch but just a few pins.

These look like they came up but didn't have enough water and aborted. They were dry and glossy, with a platic-like feel. No unusual smell. I don't think they were rotten. Any opinions?

He wasn't asking if they were Cyans, he was asking if they are rotten.
In short, yes. The rot smell goes away as the mushrooms dry out. In your photo, you can see where i have arrows pointed at the shriveled, yet distinct sunken zonate areas on the margin of the caps. THAT part has begun to rot. I'm not sure those are worth salvaging. I found some like that the other day. Sometimes the stem is still good, or sometimes you can trim the rotten edges, but it's kinda a lot of work, and not usually worth it imo. Definitely make tea with any part of those you do decide to save, as opposed to eating dried. But i'd just toss them.

Honey Mushrooms, Armillaria sp..
Try not to hope the first random mushroom you find is active, it is highly unlikely. If you want to find wild actives, know what you're looking for and try and find them.
