that's just exposure to dry cold weather, then getting wet again (morning dew)...they don't like that stuff too much, which is why they turn dark. (simple way - they're taking a battering instead of ideal wet conditions for a couple weeks)
It was all over the bay area like that just a few days ago (the dry east wind again)
as long as the stems remain reasonably whitish, it's sort of OK, but I know people who insist on fresh, no matter what, and it reaches a point where they start smelling bad, and it just gets worse, and bacteria grows on it
and one of these days, you'll get the wrong bacteria, and spend the whole trip at the toilet with painful cramps
it's happened to me, and others I know...And when that happens, you'll insist on dried ones from then on out...hehe
drying it the right way, completely, usually kills that bacteria
it's really these adverse weather conditions causing it, or finding them waaay past their prime. Recently these adverse weather conditions have made even immature ones waaay past their prime, so it gets difficult for amateurs to even identify them in the first place, much less deal with bacteria.
if you can identify it as good, and I believe the dark ones above are good, more power to ya...Personally, I would dry all them out before eating them

Do you ever wonder how many patches you miss by inches, walking right by because you were looking right instead of left?

all the time, scout, all the time
there are advantages to each mode of transportation involving hunting for cyans..----
overall, I would say biking is the best, but even there you can miss places where walking would be better
no, actually, crawling on your hands and knees would be better than that..through the bushes...yep..lol

The other day I was checking on 'my' grass patch, which has yielded about seven flushes in the past six weeks. I spotted another hunter making the rounds through the area. I held my breath as he headed straight for the grass patch. Fortunately, he walked right by it. Had he just turned his head, he would have had a nice find. Needless to say, I was relieved.

same thing happened to me last week too, and probably not far from scout. Obviously hunting, I backed off a little and watched at a distance as he passed by three patches. Waited till he rounded a bend and then continued on
that happens alot actually..I know I miss stuff too...blink and you miss it sometimes

really i though scout hunts in SF? I could have sworn he said the grass patch was in GGP somewhere.
anyway if its in the east bay in possible it was me but i havent been doing much hunting lately, was going to drop a blotter and go out today but getting wet while tripping slightly doesnt sound to fun.
I think im going to spend a good 8 hours looking around the east bay tomarrow.
hahaha this is funny, i just checked......something........ and weve been wanting ..........something........ all season, and now that that..........something....... is here, and now it wont stop to let me look around without getting covered in .........something....... in the process.
But im glad its here all of this ..........something........ is really going to open things up.

I think scout's in SF myself too, and I think I know the general area too, but that area hardly matters as a location because it's sooo freaking big.
Despite the zillions of people combing over it every day and leaving overturned ones, I can still sometimes spend a few hours and get over a hundred...it's just huge...miles and miles of grassy parkland type stuff, with lots of eucalyptus...and pine
but nobody will ever say where exactly that is
not a chance....hehe ...

I said it before and I will say it again. Global warming! Smog from china, the death of 2 polar bears, shrinking Arctic ice caps, growing Antarctic ice caps, 20% ethanol in the fuel, corn tortillas, beef prices, 9/11. They are all connected. Middle east oil!
best post EVER.
