you're absolutely right..Psilocybe is in fact, a genus, and a container for psilocybin
congradumalations
as for serotonin, the University of Mississipi did a good study of 5-ht receptors back in the 80's, and serotonin is a component of the runners high
http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/biology/b103/f02/web1/sfrayne.html
"Also, there are other chemicals within the brain capable of causing good feelings in a way comparable to those during and after exercise. Serotonin is one such chemical. Similar to endorphins, serotonin is released into a portion of the brain where it activates receptors causing heightened emotions and senses. Also, the chemical often times causes a suppression of appetite. However, there has not been much research done on the role of serotonin in the exercise process (3)."
see how close psilocybin is to serotonin

this one here makes a direct comparison

they forgot ibogain. and just plain old tryptamine
but the indol ring, or tryptophan, is what holds the key to our perseptions, and our minds. spirite molicule yadda yadda yadda'
and im sure runners get a whole cocktail of endorphans and dopamine along with seratonin.

I checked a few spots yesterday and they were all dry but my grass patch. There's way less activity than last week.

I am over going down tomrrow. I guess I will pick up dog shit in my back yard, pick a few straglers out of the front/back, wash the whip, maybe do some wheelies on the dirt bike, and pick some lions mane.

went out with a friend in a car all over the bay today and it's dry as a bone..crackly leaves and everything, this dry eastern/northern wind is a dehydrator.
but believe it or not, it can still change and stay wet for awhile, and some will still come up. In fact, I had to put the date in this one because I knew people would not believe it could happen that late. Cyans are not usually associated with a near springtime fruiting, but this was a FIRST fruiting of that year, March 27, 2006..almost two years ago.(correction - not exactly a first fruiting..It fruited a few feet away a month earlier for the first time, then this happened in another spot, likely part of the same mycelium network..Some strains are just weird in how they behave)
.so it is true, it ain't over yet

this spot is still untouched by anyone else and it's not that hard to tell...What's hard about things like this is WHEN it comes up, because this obviously isn't a normal cyan strain
I've been told repeatedly that the now notorious related (in another thread) japanese subaeruginascens
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybe_subaeruginascens
species might be a springtime fruiter and not a fall one. Oh yeah?..the one time I found that was in January, and this cyan strain is March.. so go figure ( not really intending to, but seriously I've seen things out there that's been screwing up some preconceived notions of bay area psilocybe...it does happen but for general hunting in the bay area
it does get increasingly difficult the later it gets in the year, but some strains....look out
