A better question is why did tahoe take a photo of a pile of crap?? Oh, wait, I did that too.

At least mine had a mushroom in it.

I picked these guys in San Francisco this morning:

For those who haven't read my previous posts, I'm a novice and appreciate all input. These are clearly bruising blue, and have purple spores, but look pretty different from the cyans I found this weekend. Could these be the fabled friscosa? Or are they just more mature, drier cyans?
I'm pretty stoked about this patch; it's really close to my office and apartment downtown, but apparently undiscovered-- there were dozens of corpses rotting next to the specimens I picked.

Thanks for the positive ID auweia, and especially for the distilled knowledge regarding the "friscosas." The mystery behind these morphological variations definitely adds to the appeal of the hunt. And it looks like we'll be getting some more rain this week, so the season continues...

i guess no scientific is sweeting about the friscosa finds .
Quote:
auweia said: here's an example. In this photo, I've even labeled the 'friscosa' in the middle of a cyan patch, but it's small and you'll have to blow it up to see it..It's up near the top of the photo...one lone friscosa in a patch of cyans..Sooo, why would a 'fibrillosa' or 'friscosa' choose a cyan patch if it's a different species..could it be that it's actually one and the same species? yet they look different, and nobody knows why, or can explain it

many psilocybes thrive in same environment , compete , coexist, and can eradicate . or over yield others species, there are many explanation for what is happening but for sure not good studies that´s all .. i have no see studies or serious study for recognizable mycologist, about this specie , wait a few year in the list, ....-
- what Stamets and a few others don't know, because they haven't seen this, and don't live here in the Bay Area, and are relying on other people to give them descriptions, is that these so called 'cyclone' 'friscosa' or 'fibs' area not only the same species as cyanescens, but sometimes the same plant...same mycelium, same dna.
why don´t you help then , then , or send samples to recognize mycologist as maybe Gaston Guzman . i´m with you they most be the same specie , have you seem dog their are all the same specie is that what you are saying but all have different DNA you have to make clear something amigo . mushrooms are not plant , same mycelium is been probe that mycelium can exchange dna when spores of the same species fall near and mate with the mycelium in integrate more changes, more information , we really know shit of mushrooms even scientific of the higher race, why because for example they have to focus in a specific thing for example Gaston he had to focus on taxonomy , to study the characteristics or phenotype , the study of mushrooms will developed knew techniques , for example few year you will consider many bacterias different today we know all bacterias are the same simple because they can interchange adn or dna so easily that it will be impossible to give name to all the variation are will be endless, this is true in most prokariont cells or bacteria. so what i mean amigo is that, soon in many year we are going to see in different way mushrooms , there is still o born the mycologist that will change all this i mean there is still to born or maybe have already born but until then will have to fight with all we can .so again the problem is no serious study of this species have been made.
- mean the same plant where it's impossible to seperate it scientifically from cyanescens, because it has the same DNA
yet they look different, and nobody knows why, or can explain it.
i´m with you is the same specie, since the microscope so tell it they look different and nobody know why , i bet many scientific can give million of explination ,who you been asking , again the dogs all the same species and yet so different. from Tahoe look of wolf not complety to a chihuahua, if a look all those i will say the chihuahua is another specie but DNA will tell are the same specie not same DNA ok , -
-this bothers the scientists to no end, the inability to explain why a mushroom species can look so different, yet be the same
it could involve night sweats for the very anal scientists too, who have yet to acknowledge that some of it might be beyond their control (definition wise)
haha . can´t believe you can think that .. no one is stress of that , not at all , is so common on mushrooms look all the asaroe rubra from all the world , look all the subbss, all of all the amanitas, if you think about it all the carulescens, do i have to say more, this is so common in mycology and in genetic and in life please guys that the shit to focus in only one thing not good, look all the world you are not isolated.
not inted to flame or else ,mi amigo i think you are going to be a good micologist if you choose that path , but you will have to learn lot from all the other mushrooms as weell .......
all my best vibrations to you auweia
