Heh, some people stopped and asked me questions for a few mins when they saw I was picking mushrooms the other day. One woman was asking about using mushrooms to clean up areas, and I was like, yeah Paul Stamets, he uses Oyster Mushroom mycelium for bioremediation.
For all that dudes good work, I wish he would stop making hasty assumptions on other issues, and spreading the misinformation. Someone at the Mycoblitz this past weekend called them Ps. cyanofibrillosa, but between alan and i, we set him straight.

so today was a sad day for mushroom hunting. i left my house at 8 am and went strait to my favorite deli to get somthing to eat for after all the great mushroom hunting to come. i went into the woods first to check on my local chanterelle spot(one that i found last year and was private). there were scattered amanitas and various cup fungi but no chanterelles. Then i went to a couple other cyan hotspots, but found nothing of interest. Then(tragedy) i went to my favorite private spot. The first huge spot i found completely on my own without any help last year. i told very few people about this place so its really discouraging and annoying. it was picked clean and maybe a third of the chips had been taken. also somone had left garbage in the patch aswell as throwing 2 large moldy pieces of cardboard right in the middle then tearing up the mycelium and half assedly(i know its not a word and thats ok) throwing the torn mycelium and woodchips on the cardboard. it was a mess. after further examination it definately appeared to be an inexperienced hunter in a hurry and arrogant. bummer. there was a 6 foot plank that was thrown on the undamaged part of the patch. i turned it over and saw 2 tiny webs of fresh mycelium. unfortunately, to make it possible for those 2 tiny webs, the heaviest fruiting place in the patch no longer exists, nor does any fruiting place in the patch. its destroyed. this was my first real hunt of the season and no pics or specimens.hopefuly the rain will keep up and i'll get another chance

Burton, I feel ya man
I've had that happen so many times in the past, after awhile, you just learn to keep it to yourself. There just isn't any other way..Give the fruits away till the cows comes home, but the keep the location a secret
you might be able to save parts of it, and all it takes is a handfull of mycelium to start a new patch if you can find newly laid woodchips somewhere. If you can bury some of it in a new place on the same day, there's a decent chance of starting a new patch...erm..for next year anyway

I'm sorry man. I feel ya. So far my patches remain intact, and I have only divulged the locations to a couple well trusted individuals. I would be very sad if I found the patches torn up like that. If I were you, I would transplant the rest of the patch now. The damage has already been done, and it doesn't sound like it will recover this season, so cut your losses, and move it now. Tell no one. The other person who fucked up the patch doesn't sound like he deserves it. He obviously has no idea what he's doing.
Go there with a big bucket of chips and some bags, take the spawn, and fill in the hole with the fresh chips. If you accidentally leave some spawn behind, maybe in yrs to come the patch will reappear. Take that spawn to a place with lots of FRESH chips and plant the patch. Make sure the chips are fresh by digging down and making sure there is no other mycelium growing there.
Look for new patches. Good luck.

burton, I feel ya. cardboard is horrible. It contams very easily and the cultivation books need to be rewritten so that people dont go around doing that shit.
On a brighter note. I might be headed your way next week. Pm me if you want to hook up

yep, definitely lactarius, maybe lactarius deliciosus. I found some of those imposters a few years ago thinking they were my first active. Thought they were some crazy super gym that was a new species, and could be found nowhere else in the world. Shows how naiive I was. Apparently you can eat them, though they vary a lot in quality. I havn't been brave enough to try them yet though.
Anyway, nice cyans. Some real meaty lookin suckers. I wish I could be there now, picking delicious psilocybes. Oh yeah, is that blueing on the cap of the left mush in the 3rd photo on that set you just posted?
